Eno-related: What can you tell me about this album?
Mr. Heartbreak replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Nice article about Eno in the New Yorker. http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/musical/2014/07/07/140707crmu_music_frerejones?currentPage=all -
He married Mandy Moore 5 years ago. That's like 27 years by Hollywood standards.

The comments section is more entertaining than the article.

I'll play. Back in late 2011 I developed two lymph node nodules; one in my neck inside the right parotid gland and the other next to my right ear. I had to wait three months to get the surgery, and I was unable to find out whether I had cancer during that entire time. The tissue biopsy would not take place until after the surgery. In January 2012 I underwent a parotidectomy, which included the removal of both of the lymph node nodules which were, thankfully, benign. The only instructions they gave me when I left the hospital on Saturday morning were, "Don't take a shower for forty-eight ho

She was great in the studio, and wonderful on live recordings from about '76 on...but those first few years where she could not hear herself in the monitors, she was almost always flat/off-key/out of tune. It's amazing, because she was really a better singer than anyone else in that band, but she ruined many a great song with her caterwauling. I love her in the late 70s when she could hear herself.

I have seen Ratdog a few times and always enjoyed it. Also seeing them on the upcoming tour with CRB. Really looking forward to both acts. Been listening to the show from 5/12/74 at University of Nevada, and it has a few highlights but mostly is subpar for '74 (people on setlist.com rated it 4.43, whereas surrounding shows are 4.9, 4.8, etc., so I know it's not just me). Lots of sound problems early on, then lots of lyric flubs later. Jerry struggles with the still-new U.S. Blues, Donna is just about intolerable during Row Jimmy, and Bobby has brain farts aplenty. There is a pretty cool Truc

I truly miss Jules. I also miss hemorrhoids, the clap, and that obnoxious British guy on American Idol. -

Anyone ever hear Jimmy LaFave's version of Walk Away Renee? Totally different vibe. -
Has anyone been following the story in Mississippi between McDaniel the Teabagger wingnut and Cochran, the old school Republican? This guy McDaniel is a real piece of work. I love how Palin supported him but McCain supported Cochran. Let the circular firing squad continue! I am constantly amazed by how far to the right the Republicans have gone. Richard Nixon would be a liberal in their book, for signing an amendment to the Fair Labor Standards Act, for starting the EPA, etc. etc. And even old Ronnie Raygun would be a liberal by their standards: for raising the debt ceiling 18 times, raising

TWEEDY — 6/24/14, Nashville, TN (Ryman Auditorium)

As a writer and fellow Wilco fan, I always appreciate these threads. I read nearly all of them, though I don't comment half as much as I do when it's a show I have attended. There are only so many ways I can say, "Wow, that is some set list. Jealous!" -

That actually looks like a pretty great setlist. Add in a few of the tunes that Jeff has been playing on tour (Via Chicago, Passenger Side, Give Back the Key to My Heart) and I'd be satisfied!

Won't they be kind of rusty for the festival? Unless they just play songs they all know like the backs of their hands, like Jesus etc and California Stars. I foresee bitching about the setlist in the After the Show thread.

I was just playing this show for the first time this past week. You're right, nothing notable at all. I was hoping it would have some of the famed '68 ferocity, but...not so much. Moving on to some '74 shows soon for a whole different vibe.

Looks like we have not talked about Eno much around here for a while. He has an interesting new project, streaming at Pitchfork. Sounds pretty cool! http://pitchfork.com/advance/479-high-life/ http://warp.net/records/enohyde/app-updated-with-lilac -
I highly doubt that. Neil has his fans, of course, but let's not forget that CSNY's second gig was at Woodstock. Millions of people had heard them on record. The first CSN record was a huge hit, and included Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, Marrakesh Express - both Top 30 hits - along with Guinnevere, Wooden Ships and Long Time Gone. In 1970 and 1971, they each released solo records, and all four solo LPs placed in the top 15...with the Stills album actually charting the highest. They were all in pretty bad shape by 1974 thanks to heavy drug use, but in those pre-Internet days, no one would have been

Are people in this thread saying that they like other music by the artist in question, or just that they like the "hit?" If the former, some recommendations would make the whole thread even better. I'll start. Although he's not really a one-hit wonder, I listed Bruce Cockburn because he only had one hit crack the Top 40 here in the U.S.A. ("Wondering Where the Lions Are"), and "Rocket Launcher" barely cracked the Top 50. But he is a legend, and very popular in Europe, not to mention his native Canada, where he has won multiple Juno awards (similar to a Grammy here). I highly recommend everyt -
I think Beck is batshit crazy, or possibly just a really good bullshit artist...like Rush Limbaugh. I just thought it was surprising that he actually said "You liberals were right" about anything. Figured him more likely to agree with Cheney and the neocons. I didn't get the finer distinction of what he actually said, just the quote in the article. He's a douche, either way you look at it.

Apparently, quite a bit of creative editing was done on the box set to hide mistakes or bad notes: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/the-oral-history-of-csnys-infamous-doom-tour-20140619#ixzz357VbIhdk

Well, he does also say that we should not send one more person over there...so he gets to bag on Obama for his Vietnamesque sending of several hundred "advisors." I think that's what Lou is getting at...

Guys, I can't keep track of everybody. I had to wikipedia Lou Donaldson to make sure he was alive, and I totally forgot about McCoy until I went back to edit my post.

I was so freaked out the first time I heard that song...I was like, "Holy shit, that's Rikki Don't Lose That Number!" Those guys lifted it from Horace Silver, lock, stock and barrel.

According the news, he was 85. I hate to admit it, but I was not aware he was still with us. Most of those old timers are long gone, with a few exceptions: Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, Lou Donaldson, and Herbie Hancock. Listening to Señor Blues now in his honor.
