  1. You can thank me later for telling you to skip out on Atonement. Absolutely horrible! Any film that has a type writer in its' score should be ashamed of itself. Ingratiating. A beautiful tracking shot on a beach is the only thing worth remembering. But to practice what I preach go ahead and see the film with an open mind and forget what I said about it.
  2. I don't think there was a need for a character arc for Daniel Plainview. Although, he wanted to have a milk shake with Eli and then that ended up badly for him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypvLKFYcH0A
  3. RE Wallace: It could be either of these 2 guys at # 108 on Jacob's Funhouse Patriot Act Mirror.
  4. My friend & I had this argument last night over which episode number we were at. I told him 5, but 6 technically since Lost considers LA X episode(s) 1 & 2 respectively. As far as the Series Finale it is actually according to Dark UFO a 3 parter. Part 1 is scheduled for Tuesday May 11th & Parts 2/3 are due for Sun May 23rd. I think that will change over time to avoid a one week wait. Also, movie theaters with closed circuit tv should be all over that finale to make some serious money. I think that could happen, since Disney owns ABC. No thoughts on last night's episode u
  5. An even better discussion to have is whether No Country For Old Men deserved Best Pic over There Will Be Blood. As much as I love the Coen Bros., I really think PTA outdid himself on There Will Be Blood and made his Citizen Kane (cliched I know, but my jaw was on the floor for pretty much the whole film thanks to Daniel Day Lewis & the creepy dude from Radiohead's score - throw a rock). I don't know what he's up to next. Maybe redeeming pudding coupons to direct his next feature film.
  6. I don't really feel like defending films again, but I'll do it. Obviously, this is all subjective. I think the storytelling in Mystic River is amazing. It plays out like a modern day Shakespearean tragedy. Million Dollar Baby I really liked, but I don't feel the need to rewatch it for many different reasons. The Aviator is really a character portrait of Howard Hughes told through the eras that he lived in. Scorsese captures these early eras of Hollywood via an amazing cinematography technique of manipulating film stock to look like the old Multicolor process (no green color) & then u
  7. Also, I left out the fact that over the last decade it really felt like the Oscars have been one year behind or awarding a person based on not awarding that person last year because that year they wanted to award that other person. Confused? Take 1999: Kevin Spacey wins for American Beauty and Russell Crowe loses for The Insider which most people felt that he should have won for instead of winning the following year in 2000 for Gladiator and losing in 2001 for A Beautiful Mind. Take 2001: Denzel Washington wins for Training Day and beats out Sean Penn for I Am Sam which most people felt th
  8. FYI, MLB Network is airing their 2nd Spring Training game right now. Yesterday it was the Mets vs. the Braves and today it's the Yankees vs. the Pirates. I came here to ponder this question regarding the Yankees: Do you think A.J. or C.C. will get an injury this year due to being in a 3 man rotation for the duration of the playoffs? As a Red Sox fan and baseball fan first and foremost, I tip my hat to them in their World Series win. They got lucky with no injuries. The repercussions of that I think will be felt this season. These 2 guys are always prone to elbow and/or shoulder injuries in t
  9. First, I would try to watch as many movies before you start to read/hear reviews and before they start to get nominated for awards. I'll also be interested in hearing your take on The Hurt Locker. WIll you like it because your friends lowered your bar for it or will you think it is also WAY overrated? I kind of find it funny that someone is saying Hurt Locker is WAY overrated. If anything it's kind of underseen or at least that's what the media wants us to believe. I saw it on August 1st before any of the awards hoopla and backlash (if there is any?). It was a great film. The only problem th
  10. I'm not agreeing with your opinion, but I will say that I definitely felt like The Magnificent Nolan Bros. had more in mind for future Joker stories that made the film feel a bit inconclusive. Sadly, we all know what happened to Heath and the majority of the people that are willing to speak to me ( ) all agree that we wish he was around so that Batman and Joker can do what they do again. I guess what I'm saying is that I wish that we had more from this team in terms of everyone involved, but this is it. But all of the questions that run through the comics are in here: Why doesn't the Batma

  12. Thanks for the heads up! Well, I tried to get a single ticket 3 different ways and nothing. LOL.
  13. My review & analysis of The Box. I'll post it as a spoiler, since I'm sure most people missed it in theaters and it will save room this way.... This came from The New Atheists thread, so some things may seem out of context.
  14. This was my favorite film going experience of 2007. My jaw was dropped from beginning until close to the end. I can kind of agree on the 3rd act, but it didn't detract me from not loving all that preceded it. A great example of what a tight budget can do to make a film look organic and fresh as opposed to all CGI. Moon also had a similar feel. Interestingly enough I saw both movies in the same exact theater with the same exact person around the same time of year July. Side note: Quentin Tarantino listed this as one of his favorites of the last decade. I was shocked that he would list i
  15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIcqUokPiTw Wow! What a crazy weekend that I didn't see coming! I got my power knocked out, while I was online about to post my 1,000th post to VC. Yep, no power from 11:35p.m. Thursday night until Sunday 5:30p.m. Oh well. I really can't complain with all of the other horrible disasters going on. It's been tough to start posting again. I'm not sure exactly why that is? Maybe it was nice to not have a computer for 3 days. Anyways, I would like to thank some people for reaching a 1,000 posts on a message board. I'd like to thank Al Gore for inventing
  16. While this is not in reference to Neko Case's song, this is in reference to the woman named Dawn Brancheau. I'll try to explain this to get the most out of my shock of seeing this on the news yesterday because in a weird way it hit close to home. Well, for those that may not know me I'm a film & video guy, so I'll take the opportunity to take any type of class in that area any chance I get. So in very close Lowell at their local public access channel, I took a class on editing software Final Cut which I also own. The video that they had us practice with was footage of the Killer Whale
  17. So I'm sitting here watching my A Serious Man DVD's bonus features and one of these special features is on Jewish words. And the word Lamed Vavnik pops up and I read the definition and nearly shit myself.... "The thirty six just men on whom the existence of the world depends, according to Jewish lore." So I immediately went onto wikipedia for more info to see if this tied into some Lost lore. "Origins The source is the Talmud itself, explained as follows: As a mystical concept, the number 36 is even more intriguing. It is said that at all times there are 36 special people in the wor
  18. It looks like a younger version of his mother. I zoomed in on that picture and closest I could come up with. No one has really mentioned the significance/importance of Jack's appendectomy scar in the ALT TIMELINE. (to be honest I had to read several writings to clarify one thing which is the following ?) When did Jack have his appendectomy? It was on the Island, right? How/Why would Jack not know this? His mother tells him that he was 9 years old when he had it done in the ALT TIMELINE. But it looks like Jack just notices the scar in the mirror in a "when did that get there" type of way.
  19. Right here: source DarkUFO Also, did some own theory digging of my own today with thanks to Kristin's tidibt about what the Island really is. Edit: I just thought of something that is too crazy to consider. Read it above in the spoiler.
  20. What's the socially acceptable norm for tweeting the setlist to the person next to me? What if I'm in the aisle seat? How many times should one have to get up to let people go get $8 beers? Should the aisle person stop that person from drinking? Is it ok if I get a foot massage while Muzzle Of Bees is being performed? Follow up: Is it ok if I give myself a foot massage during I'm The Man Who Loves You? What if one has to pass gas during the show, say during Passenger Side, is it ok to turn the other cheek? What if you make it to your seats and the young cutesy couple is acting all chat
  21. Ha. I didn't know what you meant, until I read it. I thought another wish of mine came true. But no, they need to release the 12 minute live version of Misunderstood from Nov 22,1995. It's out there somewhere. I have it on my iPod but not on my iTunes. It's actually under an old playlist titled "First Time Live". Kingpin, Remember The Mountain Bed, Nothing'sever, Sunken Treasure, & When You Wake Up Feeling Old are in their too. I'm not sure how accurate these are as being "First Time". EDIT: Well, the 1st Misunderstood I have is from Oct. 7, 1995 and that according to Wilcobase is th
  22. Currently watching Craig Ferguson reinvent his show for an experiment. Tonight he has no audience in attendance and is only talking to one guest Stephen Fry. Of course, this is an homage to the original host of The Late Late Show Tom Snyder. You got to love Ferguson for taking a risk like this and having a serious conversation with someone for close to an hour. I hope that he does this at least once a week or once every two weeks.
  23. He's got a huge...........lighthouse. Going to watch this episode again in a few hours. Some things I noticed: Any thoughts on who's coming? Desmond? Charles Widmore? Domino's Pizza?
  24. According to Kristin on E!, we're supposed to find out....
