I'm interested in joining because my best friend's ex-coworkers haven't invited him or me to join their Fantasy Football League this year. I'm in their Fantasy Baseball League right now. That's rotisserie. I'm interested in going head-to-head. I've heard great things about it. Edit: Well, that was pretty easy. I'll ask my best friend and see if he wants to join. He isn't on VC, but he loves Wilco. There's probably a 75% chance that he won't join but 10 teams does sound a lot better than 8.

James Cameron Vs. Piranha 3D Producer Mark Canton

I don't want it to sound like I haven't seen a bad movie since I changed my ways, but I can see how some would imply that. I didn't think Piranha 3D was bad. It was entertaining in an old, trashy drive-in movie theater type of way. (maybe it's being more forgiving on my part because the movie doesn't take itself too seriously, unlike the one below) I did see a rather bad movie on Monday night: Takers. The film that I wanted to see got bumped for some New Orleans documentary done by Harry Shearer. It was more expensive than an actual movie because it was a "Special Digital One Night Only P -

I thought that it was pretty obvious from Canton's words that he meant movie "fans" a.k.a. the people who show up to films like Piranha 3D just to have fun and be entertained. (the tone of this is a matter of fact, not rude) For the record, I can be simultaneously a movie "fan" and a filmgoer who wants to see the "prestigious" films. It's just a matter of "preparing" yourself going into it. {Yes, I know that sounds kind of ridiculous but it works for me} I find it tough to go see one type of film, if I am really feeling seeing another. For example: if I show up and let's say Piranha 3D is so -

James Cameron from Vanity Fair: After Avatar, people tried to cash in. Or, in some cases, like Alice in Wonderland and How to Train Your Dragon— especially the latter, which I think is excellent in 3-D—they were films that were in the pipeline for some time. You’ve got to remember: I worked on Piranha 2 for a few days and got fired off of it; I don’t put it on my official filmography. So there’s no sort of fond connection for me whatsoever. In fact, I would go even farther and say that... I tend almost never to throw other films under the bus, but that is exactly an example of what we should n

The Rockies acquire reliever Manny Delcarmen from the Red Sox for minor league righty Chris Balcom-Miller. this is for what happened when they shipped off Ramon Ramirez to the Giants and he's been pretty great for them. Manny could have been a decent 4th or 5th guy in the rotation, if someone gets cut loose like Daisuke. Plus, they got shit for him considering who the Rockies have on their team.

The Wilderness Downtown Here is the amazing video for We Used To Wait. I am surprised that I didn't read about it on here first. I won't spoil what this really is though.

You are forgetting about all the little old blue haired ladies (I wonder if they'll go see The Smurfs) who still go to the movies. When I used to sell movie tickets, they'd almost always ask me if there was "filthy" language in a particular movie that they wanted to see. If the movie was rated R, then they'd pretty much would pass on seeing it. The best was when they passed on seeing some R rated movie and ended up seeing the PG-13 Perfect Stranger with Halle Berry & Bruce Willis which was this "sexy" movie where Berry tried to trap Willis with her sexual ways. Of course, I'm not trying

Francona not being able to talk to 'the young umpire' was pretty ridiculous. In the day game, Beckett had the same wide strike zone and the Mariners' manager came out and complained. Ah yes, there's even hypocrites in baseball.

I actually quite enjoyed The Expendables. I didn't expect much and it delivered the goods. I was surprised that Stallone had the decency to try and develop the characters a little bit instead of relying on action constantly. Although, it felt like Jet Li got the shaft probably because he isn't that great of an actor or presence really. Dolph Lundgren looked like Frankenstein with his square chin. Jeremy Renner was the shit in The Foot Locker. His acting was fantastic. It really came off as natural and you could really feel the tension through him and the bombs that he had to defuse. He -
I enjoyed this film a lot more than when I saw it 4 years ago. Maybe I had "stick-in-my-ass" syndrome that plagues so many people across the world. That being said the film comes off as a bit underwhelming because it is so understated. Perhaps forgettable. But it really struck a chord with me watching it hours ago today on a rainy August day in New England. A few of the problems that I had were in the beginning 30 minutes or so where the film had a tough time of trying to balance the tone of the film which seemed to keep seesawing. The big one that springs to mind is the scene where Harold

I'm assuming VC's own bbop a.k.a. Paul. If you ever check out the After The Show threads you will notice that every thread is begun by Paul and his accurate setlist. I'm also assuming that Jeff hasn't seen Paul for a bit and also kind of knows Paul from seeing almost every show and maybe he is catching The National while Wilco were on a break. (I know...that was a horrible sentence) LOL. I saw a Tweet that had said that and didn't put two and two together at the time. If my memory serves me correctly, Tweedy also called out Paul during the 1st Pine Theater (Northampton/Florence, MA) show

I have to disagree with what dmada wrote. If they had bigger bands, the festival would have definitely turned out differently. The whole concept and execution was pretty flawless from the start. It pretty much came down to about $30 per day for complete access to Mass MoCa & everything else. I paid roughly $40 for my Wilco tix this past April in Boston. It's a f'ing steal, if you ask me. I understand where you're coming from in terms of feeling that the bands were "weak", but I think the overall concept of this festival was to let Wilco kind of introduce their fans to music that they li

Thanks for the corrections again. It's pretty obvious that that guy doesn't know his Being There stuff that well. He missed 2 songs.

The Autumn Defense finished their set with Big Star's You Can't Have Me. Peter Coyote was spotted in the crowd last night. Some nice pictures up already of The Autumn Defense and Nels Cline Singers (who just went on stage) on those Twitter links I gave on the previous page. I won't repost them here. Saving some room. Edit: Apparently Tweedy was soundchecking Neil Young's Look Out For My Love at Joe's Field moments ago.

From a Solid Sound tweet: We are moving The Autumn Defense & Avi Buffalo into Hunter Auditorium. Hmm. Are there dark clouds looming over?

Thanks for the corrections. Any idea on when the Festival will close up shop tomorrow?(Edit: Nevermind. I looked at the schedule and remembered that it was 7pm) It seems a bit odd that Jeff is going on somewhat early at 4p.m. I guess they probably want to help people get out on the road before a reasonable time. I'm still contemplating going there tomorrow. Tonight sounded, well looked on paper, pretty damn awesome. I think Sunday should be better in terms of real surprises during Jeff's "solo" set. One of the local papers said that anyone is game to come and join him on stage in terms -

What happened after Heavy Metal Drummer? At around 10:45 no tweets came in and then around 11:20ish a few tweets popped up saying "great show" etc. -

No problem. I just figured out Twitter today for an event like this one. I only use Facebook and have fond memories of "that old abandoned amusement park" known as Myspace. But yeah, the above is in the other thread in Just A Fan. Lots of cool pictures coming in as it happens. Another person's distraction is another person's treasure. I'll take these links off as soon as actual reports come in later tonight to free up some space.
