Mystik Spiral replied to fortuneinmyhead's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Donna, I just realized today that I missed the b-day thread for your two wonderful sons. I was reading it and all I could think was that one of the last memories I have of Brennan is him buying Scooby-Doo fruit snacks at Super Target on the way to Red Rocks. That made me smile. I can't f***ing believe the kid is 17 years old. And I'm sad that I haven't yet met Tom, but I believe that I will one day. -

I've been following this all for the past week or so... I didn't even know any of this had happened until I randomly checked my MySpace bulletins last week and saw the one from Rosie that said "RIP St. G". I thought, surely this can't mean what I think it means? So I checked the TTL forum here (that I rarely frequent these days), and I read this thread of Natalie's tragedy and all the beautiful memories of her life. I never met Nat in "real life" and didn't really have much communication even online. But I know she loved the Decemberists, and that she was a midwife. And that was enou -
I would really really really love a what.cd invite. I don't have anything to trade. I miss oink. So, I'm pathetic, whatever. Please?

I think VC is responsible for at least 80% of what I listen to these days, including Andrew. The first time I tried to see him live was about a year and a half ago. I got to the venue (capacity around 500) to find out the show was sold out. Boo. Next time I tried to see him was last winter after we were hit with two rather uncharacteristic blizzards. He was opening for our local DeVotchKa at the Ogden (capacity around 800) but due to Denver's pathetic plowing system I couldn't find parking and missed his set. As they say, the third time's a charm, and I finally saw him last April in Bou

Paul's moldy cheese, PBR, walrus leading the John Ritter eulogy sing-along, me getting lost on the way home from Red Rocks (twice)... oh the memories... Though the best thing I will ever take from that weekend is that I was introduced to Ed Harcourt. I Ed Harcourt...

Hi Donna! In a story too boring to tell here, I was recently reminded of the REM/Wilco shows at Red Rocks in '03. I can't believe that was more than 4 years ago. I miss you...

Automatic is the best. The end. I'm looking forward to the new album. I hope I'm not too disappointed.

I remember when this album leaked and I listened to it with some trepidation, doubting that it could possibly live up to the great expectations that I have come to ALWAYS pin on Okkervil River... Then I remember that I listened to it like 10 times that day that it leaked. And even now it amazes me just as much as it did that first time...

My 2008 has started out more amazing than could be expected with back to back Jason Webley/The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band shows in Denver & Boulder. Good hell, if you ever get the chance to see either of these artists live, don't miss it. That's your Mystik Spiral tip of the week.

I agree with you to a point, but for all the quality projects he's done in his short career, he'll hit the big time when he does "grow up". I know from interviews I've seen and read that he's nowhere near as awkward as he comes across in the roles that he's taken. He is an amazing actor and is destined for greatness. But when you're a teenager who's not of the hot jock-ish-ness persuasion, I'm sure there are few great roles out there for the taking. Kudos to him and his agent for choosing pure gold. But wait... this is a NP thread and I'm entirely too old to be a Michael Cera Fangirl...
-
Though I haven't seen Juno yet, my sister and I like to laugh that Michael plays the same character in everything... the token awkward teenage boy. Not that we think he's a bad actor - I think he's brilliant - he's just so fucking good at it.

nice. I'm SO looking forward to the rumoured new albums from Dirty Pretty Things & Pete Doherty this year. And, you'll be happy to know that I love Destroyer, and pretty much everything to do with Dan Bejar, so excellent recommendation as well... OK, just ignore me and get back to the task at hand.

I can't wait to see that movie. Between Arrested Development & Superbad, I'm pretty sure that Michael Cera is my favorite teen actor of all time. He is so adorable...

Well, our last.fm compatibility is low... I will recommend to you Okkervil River, because I would recommend Okkervil River to anyone. http://www.myspace.com/okkervilriver My last.fm: http://www.last.fm/user/Mystik72/

Decided to give my album away for free
Mystik Spiral replied to PaulTMA's topic in Someone Else's Song
I downloaded this as soon as you offered it, but only got around to giving it a listen today. Wow, this is really really good. I totally Summer Tweed... Thanks!! -
The more I listen to this the more I like it... and the more I realize it's not so bad a follow up to his debut. Mostly I just love David Ford...

I would also not mind hearing the Mountain Goats.

Holy cow, it doesn't seem like it's been five years. Thanks for the reminder, Drew.

New Death Cab for Cutie album: May 2008
Mystik Spiral replied to bsr8j's topic in Someone Else's Song
Plans had a few great songs but as an album was a bit of a letdown. I'm definitely looking forward to hear what they're bringing in '08!
