Tragedy in the land of the Hokies
Sweet Papa Crimbo replied to cryptique's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
While Jim Jones and David Koresh were disturbed, psychopatic cult leaders, it is not entirely accurate to call them mass murderers. They were a different example of the venality into which humans can descend. -

Tragedy in the land of the Hokies
Sweet Papa Crimbo replied to cryptique's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
At times like this, the English language is inadequate to fully capture the horror, tragedy, sadness, shock, disgust, numbness, sadness. What in the name of all that is holy makes a person think that the solution to his grievances (real or imagined) can be solved by killing innocent people? The only monsters on this earth are human. -

Finally something everybody can agree on. -
Strap them kids in Give 'em a little bit of vodka in a cherry coke We're going to Oklahoma to the family reunion for the first time in years It's up at uncle Slayton's cause he's getting on in years You know he no longer travels but he's still pretty spry He's not much on talking and he's just too mean to die And they'll be comin' down from Kansas and from west Arkansas It'll be one great big old party like you never saw Uncle Slayton's got his Texan pride Back in the thickets with his Asian bride He's got a Airstream trailer and a Holstein cow He still makes whiskey 'cause he still knows ho

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Duke lacrosse rape case finally collapsed Wednesday, with North Carolina's top prosecutor saying the three athletes were railroaded by a district attorney who ignored increasingly flimsy evidence in a "tragic rush to accuse." In a blistering assessment of the case, Attorney General Roy Cooper dropped all charges against the players, all but ensuring that only one person in the whole scandal will be held to account: Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong. "This case shows the enormous consequences of overreaching by a prosecutor," Cooper said. Cooper, who took

Or equally likely, Ben and the others aren't necessarily bad; they just have a very differnet agenda. Jin's pregnancy is going to become a very large issue. If the baby is her husband's and he stopped shooting blanks on the island...she's in trouble. If the baby is her Korean lover's and she was knocked up before she got to the island, her marriage is in trouble. The upcoming D. O. C. (date of conception) episode is going to be key.

The big three is certainly in flux. Jack isn't necessarily losing his charisma...he is putting his dignitas and autoricras (sp) on the line for someone who is seemingly betraying him. Sawyer is gaining stature...more cognizant of group needs...concerned with the welfare of others. But he struggles with his demons...sometimes he wins...sometimes they win. Locke has totally sold his soul to the island. Of course, he understands what is going on more than anyone else. The wild card is Hurley...the 'everyman'. The facilitator...the mediator...the voice of reason. But last night I had a vis

Bush administration "mishandled" e-mail messages
Sweet Papa Crimbo replied to cryptique's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
As the comedy of errors continues, I have come to the conclusion that these guys aren't venal or evil...they are just incompetent. They can't seem to get ANYTHING right. It's almost as if Bush were a Democratic mole with a goal to sabotage the Republican party for the next generation or so. This Keystone Cop version of the White House should forever dispel the notion that this group had the brains to plot the vast conspiracy that the 'documentary' Loose Change posits. Boobs...these guys are BOOBS. -
Looks like we learned a couple of things that seem important (at least to me): Juliet obviously knows who/what Jacob is. And this is a very key issue. The whole trial, branding, banishing of Juliete was contrived to draw Jack to Juliete. I make this conclusion because Juliete is following Ben's plans and directions to the 't'. The story patchie told Sayid and Kate about a purge and him being the last of the Dharma's appears to be bullshit. He was obviously the others' eye to the outside world. The tailies (or at least Ana Lucia) killed Juliet's boyfriend... Ben is afraid of Juliet. A

Smile an everlasting smile, a smile can bring you near to me. Don't ever let me find you down, cause that would bring a tear to me. This world has lost its glory, let's start a brand new story now, my love. Right now, there'll be no other time and I can show you how, my love. Talk in everlasting words, and dedicate them all to me. And I will give you all my life, I'm here if you should call to me. You think that I don't even mean a single word I say. It's only words, and words are all I have, to take your heart away.
