  1. I think "Whatever and Ever Amen" is the best Ben Folds Five release, though they're all good (even "Naked Baby Photos", which some folks don't care for). I never bothered with his solo stuff. You can get the BF5 Sessions at West 54 dvd really cheap. It's so excellent seeing those guys play those tunes and making it look so easy...and vintage blue sparkle Slingerland drums...there needs to be a "drool" smiley for that.
  2. Great photos. Thanks. T-Bone's says 'Barnie Kessel" on the bridge plate, but otherwise it looks identical.
  3. I just returned from the newsstand, where I flipped through a copy of Guitar Legends magazine (w/ ZZ Top on the cover). There's a nice black & white photo of T-Bone Walker playing a Barney Kessel guitar. Nice close up view of the guitar. All the photos I've seen of JT playing his are from too far to get a close look.
  4. I'm pretty sure I saw Noel Redding drinking in a bar in Galway, Ireland 10 years ago.
  5. Man, that's really cheap. I've never heard of that brand. It probably has poor quality electronics (but so do Epiphones). Those can be upgraded pretty easily, though. With a bit of upgrading you could wind up with a great guitar and still only be set back $300 or so.
  6. Nice lists. I've seen some pretty amazing ones. Nels Cline Singers (before he joined Wilco) Mike Watt and the Crew of the Flying Saucer (w/ Nels) The Who, 4th row, The Kids Are Alright tour ('88, my first rock concert). People say this was one of their weakest tours. Maybe so, but you wouldn't have been able to convince me if you had told me that back then. Jack Bruce & Ginger Baker w/ Bernie Worrell (late '80s, maybe 1990) Traffic reunion tour (94, I think. 4th of July) Max Roach & M'Boom w/ Dizzy Gillespie (89) Television (early '90s reunion tour) NRBQ, lots of
  7. In addition to his technichal achievements, Les is one of the greatest guitarists ever. I doubt most of the other inventors/innovators in the music industry could play their way out of a paper bag.
  8. I didn't mean to come off as if I were challenging anything you said. Like you, I challenge the entire notion that any culture can "properly deal with" other cultures.
  9. Does any director of any race or culture know how to properly deal with other races or cultures? Should they? How could they? Examples?

I think he has a Zildjian endorsement. I certainly hope so since he uses some of their most expensive jazz cymbals in a rock setting.
  11. That's great. I would have enjoyed seeing that. Unfortunately, I didn't find out about Throwing Muses until they were Tonya-less.
  12. Definitely true. I've never seen him do anything less than a great show. Hopefully he'll get next year off from the Stooges so he can tour with his own band.

I'll bet the acrylic drums hold up better on tours where they do a lot of outdoor/summertime shows.
  14. That was really good and long. I checked out the descriptions for other Watt From Pedro Shows and Nels appears on a two or three others, prior to his involvement with Wilco.

No, that's a recent Sonor line so it can't be his first drumset. I think he said in his Modern Drummer cover story that he had Sonor make the drums in that color scheme because they are the colors from the school marching band drum line he was in.
  16. Thanks for the link. I'll have to listen when I get home.
  17. I've been thinking of stripping the paint from my Tele. It currently has a thick polyurethane finish that will probably still look brand new 1,000 years from now. I'd prefer a stain or paint that is more like that found on older Fenders that will show some well earned wear. Anyone know of a site (other than Fender Forum) that has the info I'd need to get started? Thanks!
  18. I'd do the trade if I were you. You already have some nice Fender amps. You'll have fun with the Marshall. Ask the owner of the Marshall if he has a receipt or paperwork from the tech that checked out the amp. That will come in handy if you decide you don't like the Marshall and want to sell or trade it.
  19. I guess it'd be impossible to sustain a business if you limited yourself to using old Fender parts. Looks like that Nash is about as close as you can get to the real thing. Your guitar is a beauty. I admit I was sort of anti-Strat for a long time (I blame Clapton), but a number of factors have been changing that recently and I'm actually starting to like them quite a bit.
  20. Ouch. I always hated seeing bands on Letterman with the house band backing them up. They must have had a really lazy soundman or something. How hard is it to mic up a drumset? I wonder if David Letterman ever saw Anton Fig wearing his "Fig not Fier" T-shirt and, if so, if he knew what it meant.
  21. I see. I didn't know if Nash was using old Fender parts, or something.
  22. I've seen him with the NC Singers & Carla Bozulich twice in Atlanta and once in Iowa (opening for Wilco as part of Carla's group). That was before he was in Wilco. Ever since joining Wilco he hasn't done a cross country solo tour and even before Wilco it was pretty rare. Plus, it's Vancouver. Who wouldn't jump at every possible chance to go to Vancouver?
  23. That looks amazing. How much would something like that cost? Is Nash the manufacturer? Why does it say Fender on the headstock?
  24. It'd keep you busy, but at least you'd have job security. Seriously, don't let my comment sway your decision. I did see some drunk college girls at lunchtime on a Friday, but it wasn't like an epidemic or anything.
  25. I've only visited once, but my impression is that there are lots of college students, male and female, in various states of drunkeness walking all over town starting at 10 or 11 am every day. Whether that's a plus or a minus is up to you.
