I bought the book upon its release, and there was no cd included. That cd might have been included with There and Back Again.

Whether you like him or not, it's hard to deny that he wrote a ton of great songs. The question is why his fountain has run bone dry since then. No new output of any substance for nearly two decades. Strange.

>I once saw a ABB/P&F double bill (6/29/02) and it was one of the most awesome displays of stamina I've ever seen by Mr. Warren Haynes. First, he did about 75 minutes with the Mule, then 2 solid hours with the ABB, and finished off with a long (2 1/2 hour) set with Phil. Close to 6 hours onstage in grueling heat and the dude wore a long sleeved black shirt the entire time. Amazing. Did he play Soulshine with all three bands that night?

I'd like to nominate Marilyn Manson's version of the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams" as one of the most unnecessary covers of all time.

>OOP bonus disc that originally came with Pig Lib I don't know what "OOP" is, but I think the Pig Lib bonus disc is better than the album itself.

>Neil Young's "Harvest Moon" Great choice. I wonder if someone swept a broom during the song.

>Bob Weir interviewed in Motor Trend Magazine Thanks for the link. Of the myriad Dead articles I've read over the years, that certainly offered a different take, aside from Cassidy being able to see around corners while driving.

Dylan played "Handy Dandy" from Under the Red Sky for the first time live on 6/27/08, for those interested in that sort of thing.

A nice version of the 6/20/08 Radio City show is streaming on the archive: http://www.archive.org/details/mmj2008-06-...c6.744t.flacf16

>Desire Planet Waves Blood on the Tracks Street Legal That's spot on. You could add Before the Flood to that, too. And what's great about Dylan is the diversity in sound of each record, so you could listen to him for months (and years) and not feel like your listening to the same thing repeatedly.

>All the advertising he needs is in his name, what else does he need to do?? Well, he also named his band after the title of one of his dad's songs. Next thing he'll do is move to Woodstock and fabricate a motorcycle accident.

what about the voice of geddy lee how did it get so high?

>but lost touch with them after Signals was released. I'm the same. Signals is still one of my favorites. -
>There's no beautiful Jeff Tweedy singing. I can't tell if he's taking a tongue-in-cheek potshot at Wilco fans with that line, implying they're not "sophisticated" enough for his music. Likely, it's more that he's aware his music is not entirely accessible to the mainstream.

http://www.readthehook.com/stories/2008/06...INE-0723-B.aspx INTERVIEW- Nels Cline: Refusing to get technical on us by VIJITH ASSAR, published June 5, 2008 It's not unfair to call Nels Cline the brains of Wilco as long as we also concede that Jeff Tweedy is the heart. Ever since his induction in 2004, Cline has become a mascot of sorts and a definite fan favorite as a result of his ability to inject X-factor noisy guitar solo freakouts into the heart of Tweedy's sweetest of pop gems. But when he's not answering to the band or to Tweedy's compositional whims, Cline also keeps busy with mor

The Last Waltz Ensemble is playing BB King's club in NYC on Aug. 9 (the anniversary of Jerry Garcia's death, coincidentally) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the show. >i'll probably never watch The Last Waltz again though. I watch at least a scene or two every time it (and Jaws) are on. I can't get enough of it. >Read "This Wheels On Fire" for many more details. Terrific book, especially for a balanced history of the Band. >The Midnight Rambles are incredible. I keep telling myself I'll get to a ramble some day. With the passing of Bo Diddley, I should make it more o

>I knew we could not go much longer without another thread about The Band. Tell me about it. It always circles back to the Band. Probably sheds a little light on why the first album was such a breath of fresh air when it was released.

>The "Caravan" by the man in the sparkling jump suit is pretty much my favorite thing on there. I need to get one of those unis, too. Robbie's commentary on the dvd about this scene is great. He talks about Van showing up for rehearsal that day wearing a Mickey Spillane outfit and being completely surprised by the outfit at the show.

>1973 my favorite year Yes, I love '73-74 for the jazzy side of the dead, thanks to Keith's piano.

>I loved a lot of his work, including some of his acting roles (Husbands and Wives in particular.) That's the movie that immediately came to mind when the news broke. Great scene when he freaks out at the girlfriend talking nonsense at the party.

A review of the show from jambase.com: http://www.jambase.com/Articles/13939/Wilc....08-Lawrence-KS The last time beer flowed on the streets of downtown Lawrence, Jayhawk fans were celebrating Mario's Miracle as Kansas went on to win the national championship. A little more than five weeks later, there was still cause for celebration: Wilco playing an outdoor show in the middle of downtown at 10th & New Hampshire. There was no traditional "venue" but rather an open space that was converted into a scaled down Wakarusa - a Wilco-rusa, if you will. A local vendor set up shop slinging piz

>read any number of the books out about him for a better picture of the man. Any one of them stand out, if you were to read only one? >That would be Dean Bennedetti. Very good, LouieB. Here's a (long) excerpt from the New Yorker article about the Benedetti recordings:

>The tape-deck based ipod converter works really well in my car. Which one do you use? The one I have does not make the music sound good at all.

The radio show is great during the morning drive. The revelatory minutae is surpassed only by the great recordings. Phil Schaap is a jazz encyclopedia. He spent an hour on Red Norvo today for his centennial. I had only known about Red from the great Sinatra live recording.
