  1. I'm giving this guy a chance. He's a good actor.
  2. Lotta boner pill commercials on the Histoty Channel tonight.
  3. In my day, we had the TroubAlert and we made do.
  4. Carlton was a little more of a "Death Star" type pitcher than Ryan. Sometimes, Ryan sucked. The Mets traded him because (besides the fact that M. Donald Grant was a moron) he had persistent control issues. Not much is made of it, but you could certainly make a case for a "Curse of the Nolanino" being responsible for the fact that no Mets pitcher has ever thrown a no-hitter. Many have after leaving the Mets, but never in a Mets uniform.
  5. Generals gathered in their masses Just like witches at black masses Evil minds that plot destruction Sorcerers of deaths construction In the fields the bodies burning As the war machine keeps turning Death and hatred to mankind Poisoning their brainwashed minds, oh lord yeah! Politicians hide themselves away They only started the war Why should they go out to fight? They leave that role to the poor Time will tell on their power minds Making war just for fun Treating people just like pawns in chess Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah! Now in darkness, world stops turning As the war
  6. Rumsfeld and Cheney's careers are inextricably woven together. Cheney was once's Rumsfeld's apprentice, but now Cheney is the master.
  7. About to uncork some Yellow Tail. Australia, Australia, we love you, Australia!
  8. The greatness of Steve Carlton has been forgotten by far too many.
  9. Ryan Howard's going to have a cracking Strat-o-Matic card next year.
  10. I have a feeling that all future coaches' challenges will be delivered a lot more strenuously than that one was.
  11. That game may well turn out to be a defensive struggle, like 2-0 Giants or something.
  12. That dude oughtta go. When you fall behind Pittsburgh, for Christ's sake, you really should be fired on general principles.
  13. BIG FULL MOON: Tonight's full moon is the closest and biggest of 2006. Why? The Moon's orbit is lopsided: one side is closer to Earth than the other. When the Moon turns full on Sept 7th, it will be on the close side, making it seem a bit wider than usual. Look for the extra-wide Moon rising in the east at sunset--very pretty.
  14. Can you get wasabi green peas there? (Jesus, to think I thought about going to that college!)
  15. Ryan was often the best player on the teams he played for after being traded from the Mets (for Jim. Fucking. Fregosi. M. Donald Grant, wherever you are, I hope it's very hot and very annoying). Had he ended up with the Orioles, A's, Yankees, Reds, Dodgers, Phillies or Pirates, he would have been in a few more World Series and would probably not have so many detractors. He never really was the BEST pitcher any given season, but he was a high-quality pitcher for 27 years and that deserves respect. And when he had his shit, he was damn near untouchable.
  16. If they fuck this up, I will declare the two-party system dead as the proverbial doornail, and go live in the woods so the Stasi can't find me.
  17. No-Hitters * May 15, 1973 (@ Kansas City) * July 15, 1973 (@ Detroit) * Sept. 28, 1974 (vs. Minnesota) * June 1, 1975 (vs. Baltimore) * Sept. 26, 1981 (vs. Los Angeles) * June 11, 1990 (@ Oakland) * May 1, 1991 (vs. Toronto). For the first three, maybe, but the last four were all pretty decent teams.
  18. Stay. So when the Dems take back the House, they can haul his ass before hearings on Iraq and grill him like a marinated chicken breast.
  19. The local classic rock station way overplayed the Seger oeuvre for two decades. I really could go the rest of my life without hearing another note of his again.
