The "dark brown" Tele is a Fender Custom Shop 68 (?) Reissue Rosewood Telecaster.

Buying a guitar is an extremely personal purchase. There's no way to tell you which brand/model would be the best for you. The best thing to do is to go to the store, and see which guitar fits your hands/body best, find which one "speaks" to you. Since you're a beginner, it might be tougher to find exactly what you want, so you might want to consider holding off until you're a little bit more advanced? That being said, there's tons of great guitars out there for beginners. Don't be afraid to spend a little bit more on a slightly higher quality instrument. It'll make it easier to learn .

Here's a little ditty I recorded in my living room. Nothing too complicated, just a way to kill a few hours: click here It's a cover of a song my friend Jeff wrote. I play all the instruments and sing (as best as I can ). I figured Wilco fans might get a kick out of it.

I don't think one set of tuners makes a big difference vs. any other set of tuners, as long as both sets keep you in tune. It's more of an aesthetics issue than anything else.

Think of it this way: potentially, you're trading your AJ for a guitar that's worth more, but doesn't have the mojo. You could then turn around and sell the Jazzmaster, and make yourself a decent sized profit. But what then? Money comes and goes, but truly great guitars come around very rarely. Your guitar is obviously great, because your friend is willing to give up a guitar that's worth considerably more for it. Stick with the AJ. That's my take.

I don't mean any disrespect to the people who do the hard work of taping, transcoding, uploading, etc. Some of my favorite people are tapers. I enjoy listening to MP3s from these boards here at work. I listen through a broken pair of crappy ear buds. Sound fidelity means nothing to me. Not having to wait for a massive FLAC file to download, not having to deal with getting a log in for a restricted to 10,000 logins torrent site, and not having to deal with actually downloading torrents are all huge perks. The one-click convenience of MP3s posted to a blog is excellent. If you're concerned about sound fidelity, please stick to the torrent trading sites and STFU.

The Champ will probably suit you better than the PJR, I think. The PJR gets pretty damn loud, and the Champ sounds almost as good.

The Fender Pro Jr. is like sex covered chocolate when it comes to amps that break up nicely at lower volumes.

Well, judging from the video, it looks like he spends most of his time playing something above the 12th fret. It doesn't look like he's actually following the chords in the some, so much as making a "sonic landscape" for the rest of the instruments or somesuch. I'm assuming you're going to try this out on solo guitar. Try strumming along to the song using A, C#m, F#m, and E. Listen to the bassist for the changes.
