  1. That guy is wrong. Under his recommendation (or some similar one) I bought the PX100s. Big mistake. They felt cheap, and didn't sound all that great. I returned them, got the PX200s, and have been more than happy with them.
  2. Step 1: Go to Guitar Center (bring your guitar) Step 2: Plug your guitar into every tube amp you can find, until you find one you like.
  3. Agreed. I've never been to the Riv (strangely enough), so this will be a cool experience.
  4. Just get Adobe Audition or Garageband (mac). Trust me, those are what you are looking for. Adobe Audition can be acquired through...other means. PM me if you're curious.
  5. ...or we could use some post 1974 technology, and "upload" it to the "internet" so he can "down load" it.

  7. Thanks, ya, you're right. He's amazing at that thing. But, I was hoping I could learn it for class too. We'll see how it goes
  8. Well, I'm no expert, but think of what the folks that invented jazz played on: hollow body guitar with tube amps. The kind of warmth that a nice tube amp brings is not something that's easily replicated with pedals or pickups. In the end, what matters most is what feels good/sounds right to you. Take your Strat, mess around with the tone/pickup/volume settings, take the guitar to a guitar store, and play around on amps/guitar until you find something that feels right, and fits your budget.
  9. The guy who wrote the tab transposing the pedal steels licks to electric did a great job, but it's incomplete: http://www.gumbopages.com/music/wilco/song....i.held.you.txt Would any kind soul be able to fill the rest in?
  10. My favorite distortion unit: the volume knob on my Blues Jr.
  11. Thanks for all the tips! Strangely enough, I had a chance to really play with the amp this morning, and I actually picked up on a lot of the same tricks you're describing here. I thought everything sounded great, and I was able to get some really diverse sounds out of it by varying the way that I play. The one thing that I noticed is that when I turn the tone all the way down on the guitar and/or the ampe, it sounds like a bag of shit, especially on open major chords. Overall, I can get a lot of great tones out of this thing, I've even found I can get a decently clean sound by turning
  12. I was expecting Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and the Soft Bulletin. Shame, that would have been real controversy.

    Someday Soon

I think he plays this walk up: E--0--2--4 And then an A chord, and a B7: e--2 B--4 G--2 D--4 A--2 E--x And then an E, and then the walk up again. You can arpeggiated those two chords for a cool effect as well.
  14. Well, that's good to hear, thanks guys! This is my first tube amp, so everything is new to me. Here's what I like about it so far: 1) Fantastic incredible warm tone 2) Looks great 3) Easy to use and simple (two knobs!) Here's what's bothering me: I don't know much about tube amps, but from what I understand, at a certain point in volume, this amp is supposed to break up and distort. Which is fine, it sounds great. However, there seems to be very very little headroom with this. For example, even with the volume at 3 I start to hear some break up. Is this normal? This amp seems very
  15. I liked Mystics a lot, so I guess that's two. Honestly, though, if you don't like it don't listen to it.
  16. So, I just got my first tube amp (Fender Pro Jr). One of my tubes is glowing bright orange. Should it be doing this?
  17. I like the songs "Fireworks," "Junior," and "Whispers or Screams."
  18. I change my vote to: Favorite key Bb Favorite chord is probably still G, although I have been digging the Cmaj7 lately.
  19. OK, after doing some research, I've come to the conclusion don't have any problems with the C-shaped neck at all. That part of the next doesn't really make a difference for me, it doesn't even come into serious consideration, I think I'd be fine with any reasonable shape. However, I do prefer the wider nut width (am I using this term correctly?) on the Highway 1 teles. Sigh, I'm really tempted to just sell this guitar, and get a highway 1. It's the one I lust after. Ah, I see. The 9s are a little squiggly under my fingers as well, I'm used to bigger gauges. Do you recommend 10s or 11s f
