  1. Yeah, I'd definitely say the headliners are pretty weak (at least for my tastes) but I think the second and third tiers are decent. In the second tier, there are the Decemberists, Andrew Bird, Girl Talk, Bon Iver, Lily Allen, among otherrs. And there are a number of acts on the undercard that I'd like to see as well -- Rodriguez, The Knux, Sarah Siskind, Sara Watkins, to name a few.
  2. I think they should do a whole tour of just West Coast wineries. That would surely piss all the remaining old-school fans off.
  3. I'm guessing you probably won't hear much from it until it actually comes out.
  4. It was a gorgeous day in the Big Easy and, for a festival, I thought this was a pretty darned good performance. The band was loose when it needed to be, serious when it needed to be and showed a lot of versatility. Above all, the guys just seemed to be having fun. We got some good banter from Jeff, mostly as it related to a flag of a mustache that he kept referring to as pork chops. We got a start and restart on A Shot in the Arm. There was a funny moment -- not for John, I guess -- when he took a tumble on the band "amp jump" before I'm The Man Who Loves You. (He recovered nicely.) And the
  5. Here was the complete setlist of what was played in Oxford (someone who got a printed setlist might be able to confirm, but I think they almost certainly didn't play at least three or four songs that were planned): Sunken Treasure You Are My Face IATTBYH Pot Kettle Black Handshake Drugs A Shot in the Arm At Least That's What You Said Jesus, etc. Impossible Germany It's Just That Simple Forget The Flowers Misunderstood The Lonely 1 Shouldn't Be Ashamed Box Full of Letters Heavy Metal Drummer -------------------------- The Late Greats Hate It Here Walken I'm The Man Who Loves You -------------
  6. I have to say that Sloss Furnaces was a totally awesome and unique venue! The actual space where they have shows sort of looks like a giant airplane hangar from the outside, but inside it's much smaller than you think. And man, the entire place is really, really eye-catching and a testament to a certain era in American history. It seemed like a very enthusiastic crowd, and though it's probably a little clich
  7. The above setlist is accurate, though it didn't make mention of special guests Scott McCaughey (acoustic guitar), Peter Buck (electric guitar) and Bill Rieflin (tambourine) on California Stars. McCaughey also stayed on stage to play keyboards on Misunderstood, joining Mike at his "station."
  8. It's a Judee Sill song. Not sure where exactly it appeared in the film, but maybe as an instrumental passage in one of the "transitional" shots?
  9. Looks like another East Coast date that will soon be announced: Sunday, July 19, 2009 Artpark, Lewiston, NY *ARTPARK* *CELEBRATING 35 YEARS!* *7pm gate* /reserved and lawn seating *www.artpark.net *716-754-4375 --------------------- Wilco fan club on sale: Wed., April 22 (through Wilcoworld.net) Public on sale: Friday, April 24 at 10am
  10. The Wiltern is GA, so if you want to get close, just get there early.
  11. Hadn't seen it mentioned here yet -- and I'm not sure what this has to do with anything, except that I guess Wilco will not be playing on Aug. 1 -- but Nels and Mike Watt will apparently be opening up at M. Ward's free Central Park Summerstage show that day. Brooklyn Vegan had an item about it the other day. To add to their coverage a little bit, Nels said that he and Watt will be playing together (of course) in a group that also includes Yuka Honda and maybe one or two others. Apparently they'll be doing an improv-heavy project that Watt has wanted to do for a while.
  12. I have to say this is kind of bizarre. How many people at the game are going to be like, 'Who?' (Then again, I guess most people who throw out first pitches are relatively random.)

    Dates in June

    I wouldn't hold your breath.
  14. The arrangement of One Wing sounded pretty similar to the live version, at least to me.
  15. Next time, maybe creamy Italian. But really, don't remind me about the salad dressing. Oy. I thought we really had a great group of people this year. The whole weekend always goes by so quickly and then I miss everyone, but I do cherish the time we get to spend together (and with Jeff and Susan).
  16. I will say this, I think there is a little bit more of a pop element on this record that maybe was missing from the past couple of efforts. A couple of songs are really catchy, and I mean that in a good way.
  17. I don't think I can make any particularly insightful comments about Glenn's percussion after one listen. There aren't any crazy drum solos that I remember, like on Let's Not Get Carried Away or something like that. It just sounds like Glenn (although I heard that Jeff mentioned to someone at the show, at a specific point -- I'm not sure where -- that a particular sound had come from Glenn throwing a beanbag against a wall or something). As far as the sound, knowing that one of the band's goals was to use the studio more as an instrument, I think they succeeded at that. I'm not sure if it's b
  18. If I'm remembering correctly, it's Spiders-esque. Not quite as heavy-sounding, if that makes any sense, but definitely influenced by Neu! and the like. The Krautrock lives!
  19. Hmm, that's interesting. Wonder what prompted the switch... I've generally had really good experiences with Front Gate, though, so this is good news. They'll certainly be better than MusicToday in terms of shipping physical tickets in a timely fashion, at least I hope so. Of course I'm sure I'll change my opinion on Front Gate the first time I can't get through on a pre-sale.
  20. The hamsters powering it were kinda pooped by the end of the night, though.
  21. Glad you had a good time, dude! And glad you liked the Margots. I've got a ticket to see the Brooklyn show on Thursday, I think. Lookin' forward to seeing the Cloud Cults. Any idea if they and the Margots are alternating as "headliners" on this tour (even though each band plays about an hour set)?
  22. You'll both be happy to know that Ted stayed until about 5 a.m. I'm not even kidding. As to the question about Ravi Shankar, I don't think he's actually on the record but there are certainly some Shankar-esque sounds on a couple of songs...

    Wilco DVD

Glad to help, man. We should probably meet in person one of these days, if we haven't already. I'll buy you a Beard Papa or a slice something--both are right around the corner from the theater.
  24. Damn, I totally missed that! Jeff and Miles' Wii partner was named Zander, I believe.
