  1. Haven't looked to see if they're on tour at that time, but if not, I'd hazard at least a guess that Low might wind up opening in Duluth (which would be cool). Get well soon, Nels!
  2. Too many August birthdays! I'm late on this one, but I hope it was a great day, Greg...
  3. I raise a giant, steamin' mug o' joe to you on this special day! See you soon, I hope...
  4. After pulling up a pretty decent seat like two days before the show, I went with a buddy of mine who's a pretty big Squeeze fan from back in the day. Part of the appeal for me was getting to see FoW, but I have to say, it was a pleasant surprise to hear how good Squeeze sounded. The only bad thing was the massive downpour that happened right as the show was letting out... Anyway, here was the Squeeze setlist for the Beacon show: Take Me I
  5. I seem to recall seeing the Watson Twins being listed as support on at least some of Magnolia's fall dates.
  6. Believe it or not, Samuel, the Dour Festival was the one show in this festival run that I really wanted to go to. Not just to hang out with you and Laurence again, but because I love that the town is called Dour and there's a festival there. A Dour Festival...get it? Haha. (In English, "dour" means sullen or gloomy, so I was imagining everyone there frowning a lot.) Again, glad you guys had a fun time. Now you have to make it to a Wilco show in the U.S.!
  7. Very nice photos, Samuel! Hope you had a good time at the festival, and I'm glad that you Belgians got to see Wilco twice in your country in three months. (Is Dour the name of the town where the festival was?)
  8. that's kathryn calder, carl's niece, who has been with them since their tour for twin cinema. i wouldn't say her voice sounds exactly the same as neko's, but she does a nice job filling in on neko's vocal parts when neko isn't with them and she adds other stuff to their sound as well. given neko's solo success, the NPs had to find a way to still be able to tour when she wasn't available if they wanted to continue developing as a band and kathryn definitely gives them that. (her own band, immaculate machine, is pretty cool as well.) i didn't get to see much of the NPs' set yesterday, which w

    Speculation

nah, it's not pretty enough there.
  10. good story, bridget. i definitely need to check out more of gary's stuff. i have the one record that everybody has, but haven't got much further than that. see you at the fillmore in sept., right?
  11. Hadn't heard about two shows before (though it probably makes sense). I had heard September sometime in terms of dates, though I'm not sure if if would be before or after ACL...
  12. I think it's the theme to the Bob Newhart Show. The clip they were using isn't exactly the same as the one found here, but it's pretty similar.
  13. You can thank gogo for that one (or a small Canadian boy through whom she made the request )...
  14. No, they literally tried to make everyone sit down right before the show started. We played along during Low's set, but once Wilco came on, everybody just stood up and they basically gave up. Before the show, some of the venue personnel had said that they hadn't really ever had an act like Wilco (i.e. a rock band) play there before. They lost control of their stupid "No dancing" policy very quickly this time, though.
  15. Thanks for finding that picture, Heids. Glenn said he started doing the tribute after seeing Shellac play at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival in May. ATP was the first stop on Wilco's first European tour this year.
  16. Not to respond to my own post, but just a couple of notes I had to mention from the show: -During the Hummingbird dance, Jeff opened his jacket to reveal a T-shirt that read simply, SELLOUT. That was pretty awesome. -The vibe seemed better than last year and I have to say a large part of it was because of the fact that security eventually relented and allowed people who rushed the stage when Wilco came on to stay. Apparently, the stage rush is a fairly traditional thing at Massey, where I get the sense that people stay seated for a majority of the shows there. In one sense, it kind of su

    Vancouver date

Is that where that "public art thing" is?
  21. Good to see you're laying down the law, Samuel. (My day and half in Brussels was great, by the way. I went to the Cantillon brewery for a little education on lambics, bought some chocolates at the Grand Place and even made it to that great record store over by the Bourse--I think it's called Jukebox.)
  22. I saw you scurrying to and fro that night trying to get your vinyl YHF signed, Marijn! Of course I had no idea that was you or I would have said hi. See Dunja? When in doubt, you should always go to the show and ask questions later! (Haha.)
  23. I think the last time the full band played in LA was June '05 at the Greek... The Roots with Vernon Reid opened and Jeff went into the crowd to sing Hummingbird to his family, if I'm not mistaken. What a fun show that was. The only question this time is whether a certain floppy-haired musical genius will be playing anytime close to Aug. 29...
