Unfortunately, I wasn't able to witness the Vibes being Gathered in person. Fwiw, I think 3/4 and 3/5/05 are still maybe my favorite Jeff solo shows I ever attended. Great memories. And 6/8/04 was one of the most fun band shows, too...Jeff's seersucker suit, the Hummingbird hug, etc.

Another reason I don't trust setlist.fm unequivocally — I was told by a very good source that they didn't play Woke Up This Morning (With My Mind On Jesus). The person who put that setlist in probably means Only The Lord Knows...

Jeff said at his MCA Pitchfork talk tonight that they're gonna play Star Wars tomorrow. Not sure if that means the whole record or just a few songs, but of course they're gonna play some of it because why put the record out now if not to play at least some of it on a big platform?

Also I realize most people who are interested in setlists nowadays probably get them from the Wilcoworld site (or more likely, via the Wilco Facebook account) or setlist.fm and usually those sources give you what you want to know, more or less. But be aware that there are often minor errors and/or a lack of detail with the info posted on those sites as well. Just sayin'.

He did seem to struggle with his lyrics a touch more than usual, but I blame it on the mugginess! And I think Jeff probably benefitted more from the "encouragers" up front than anything I was doing...

In retrospect, I think maybe that's partly what was bumming me out about the vibe around me was that people really seemed to be insular in their enjoyment of the show, if they were enjoying it. Oh, I fully understand what you're getting at here. And I totally get that for the vast majority of people, that's the one show they'll see this year (or for a couple of years). Just to make it clear, I've always been perfectly fine with whatever Jeff and the band feel like presenting on any given night. I'm not overtly criticizing any choices that have been made, just observing that for this run anyway, he/they seem to have more or less decided what songs will work in these venues and settings they're playing and are staying the course with them. For some time now, I've viewed shows in iconic venues with a certain degree of skepticism. On one hand, who wouldn't want to attend a show at such venues as the Hollywood Bowl, Sydney Opera House, Ryman Auditorium or Red Rocks Amphitheatre? These are places people travel from far and wide to experience and go out of their way to knock off their proverbial bucket lists. On the other hand, a concert can't be great just because of the venue and not every concert in an iconic venue can be great. Despite starting 10 minutes late, Wilco actually played a bit beyond its 90-minute slot headlining the main (Sun Country) stage and closing out this year's Basilica Block Party. And thankfully the band did because those extra minutes helped provide one highlight of the set when Jason Isbell — who had immediately preceded Wilco on the stage — came out with his gold Gibson Les Paul to take a solo on California Stars. Isbell, who seemed to develop a bit of rapport (or is it just guitar geekery?) with Nels, delivered a nice jangly solo when his turn came up and did a better job than many others

Well, after another fun summer weekend in the Berkshires, it was quickly back to work for Team Wilco, which found itself clear on the other side of the country for a one-off, pre-Fourth of July ballpark show that preceded a fireworks, er, display.

Yeah, I guess it has been weirdly quiet around these parts in terms of this show. On a personal level, I blame it on an extra-busy weekend; apologies for the delay... I guess I was also thinking a few more people would chime in, but then again, this year's show wasn't all that well attended, unfortunately. The balcony was only half full, by the looks of it, and the floor didn't feel all that crowded either. You could speculate on why — an especially-busy Friday in Chicago show-wise with Gary Louris/Kraig Johnson, Tame Impala and Ben Folds, among others, also in town; or Wilco/Tweedy burnout
