  1. Funny thing is...there is a North Chicago: http://www.northchicago.org/ South Detroit maybe meaning Down River? East Detroit is now East Pointe, of course... But no, nobody in Detroit says "South Detroit." I think it's funny that anyone cares, but there it is.
  2. I wouldn't buy any album digitally remastered before 2003 if there are later versions available. Can't comment on which later remaster sounds best in this case, but seriously disqualify those earlier attempts. The technology wasn't there yet and you'll end up with a flat sounding, soulless piece of poo.
  3. I still have never heard of it. Weird location for a rock show though. That palce is like a mall, as I recall from a bachelor party I attended a few years ago.
  4. I've never even heard of the Black Orchid.

  6. Thanks for the kind words, all. And thanks to everyone who has come out to see us or bought our music over the last 6 years.
  7. Join us this Monday at Schubas for the final show. It's an acoustic opening set for the Chamber Strings and we'll be playing our favorite songs from the Riviera catalog and a few from the album in production now. Monday, May 28 - Schubas - With the Chamber Strings Hope to see you there. http://www.riviera-sound.com
  8. FINALLY got my vinyl/CD package last night. Beautiful packaging. Can't wait to drop the needle tonight with a few Smithwicks. Tasty!
  9. My band opened for Jeff a couple years ago. Beat that. If that wasn't enough, we've opened for three members of Uncle Tupelo at various times: Jeff, Jay and John Stirratt. Good times...
  10. No shipping confirmation email, no delivery yet. Ugh.
  11. No sign of mine either. I won't be pre-ordering again.
  12. Extended trailer for John's film on Two Cow Garage: LINK
  13. I think that's one of the better (if not flattering) Pitchfork reviews I've read in a long time. I didn't find it all that snarky and I can't argue with this passage at all: Case in point, the drowsy opener "Either Way" sleepwalks through a list of indecisive sentiments ("maybe you love me, maybe you don't") before breaking for a Cline solo that's straight-up Weather Channel Local on the 8s. It's OK to appreciate the craft of rcok criticism without agreeing with the content. This was a pretty nicely written and honest criticism. What more can you ask for?
  14. This ran on GLONO three years ago today and I thought you all might be interested. It's my interview with the founders of Justafan.org (and VC honcho, Dashley). Check it out.
  15. It's always made perfect sesne to me: All matter is molecules vibrating at different speeds. Music, too, is simply a vibration of air (as is all sound) as it passes over and around your ear drums, causing them to vibrate. If you could manipulate all matter to vibrate at the same speed you would essentially remove friction and all the energy would be efficiently transferred--thus, nirvana. Sign me up.
  16. I'm not going until they play Revolution #9. Poseurs!
  17. I think YHF was the dividing line for old time Uncle Tupelo fans who dug AM and cautiously interested in Being There. The Mermaid Ave albums kept many satisfied but YHF was too poppy and experimental (yes, ironically, both) for many of those old alt, country folk. AGIB was just confirmation to them that Jeff had lost it.
  18. Watch the Cliff Notes version of their documentary on GLONO.
  19. I have an old Epi Sheraton and love it. Beautiful tone and a fast neck.
  20. He's even in a band: http://www.myspace.com/mushmanstories
