It wouldn't be anywhere near as good if it were a lot shorter. The length and repetition are crucial to the song's impact, in my opinion.

Let me rephrase: it's one of my three favorite Wilco songs. And if it was on an album and played at every show, I'd feel the same way.

Maybe a small point, but you guys are overlooking how bad the Summerteeth material sounded with that stripped down lineup. Those versions of "Shot in the Arm" and "Can't Stand It" are really weak. Also, isn't this just really another anti-Nels thread? Pat replaced Leroy, Mikael was already there.

I don't think Jeff ever messed with the laptop; they had a "laptop guy" in the back during the whole YHF tour. It was Mike Jorgensen.

Intrinsic quality of the song aside, part of the problem for me is the sequencing on the album. It's yet another slow/mid-tempo song after "Shake It Off", "Please Be Patient With Me" and "Hate It Here." Sometimes SBS is too mellow for its own good. By the time we get to "Leave Me", I'm pretty sleepy.

At the Tempe show last year, a radio station was tallying "What's Your Favorite Wilco Album?" on a dry erase board in the theater lobby. YHF was the big winner, followed closely by SBS. I was surprised. (Ghost Is Born and AM were losing when I checked.) Not exactly scientific, but still interesting. I think a lot of people got on board the Wilco Express with SBS -- but more casual fans, perhaps, not the kind of die-hards that populate a message board.

I'm afraid those days are long gone! I'm just glad the guy is playing electric guitar at all -- remember in the '90s when it looked like he would never play electric again, except for a stray song here and there?

There's a nice audience recording of night one on archive.org, so I just added the missing songs. Not a perfect solution, obviously, but it works. The recordings sound fine, although there is occasionally some weird editing between the tracks (gaps, some repeated transitions) that gives the downloads something of a slapdash feel. The Wilco downloads are more professional. I think MMJ made a mistake by announcing these downloads before the shows were played, and then they scrambled to get them on the site before they really knew what they were doing. Still good shows, though.

Daltrey had surgery on his throat in late '09 and sounds dramatically better now than he did last time I saw him (in 2006).

I agree about the "Evening With" tour, but I'd rather see anything but the Boston show -- it's already circulating as a soundboard/webcast that sounds pretty great.

"Sonny Feeling" got some play in '09 when they were touring the album, but they haven't played it in a couple of years, have they? I guess you'd be the one to ask!

Sounds like they just got tired of playing "Bull Black Nova" and "One Wing" all the time, and dropped them for a few shows. And those are really the only two W(TA) songs that have remained in the set consistently. But I'm sure "Wilco (the Song)" and "You Never Know" will get rotated back in eventually. Part of the problem is that the better songs from that album like "Solitaire" and "Deeper Down" are quiet songs that don't come off particularly well live. Great to see "Country Disappeared" make an appearance last night; I like that one.

Yeah, it's funny to read the comments on that (terrible) review -- like the guy who swears they played a 12-minute version of "War on War" at the concert he saw. As everyone who's actually paying attention knows, Wilco doesn't really jam, aside from an extended solo on a few songs.

I've got a Kindle and an iPad. If you don't want to spend a lot of money and are just looking for an e-reader, I'd get the Kindle. It's much better for reading books than the iPad or Kindle Fire -- the "e-ink" is easier on the eyes because there's no backlight. Plus you can get a basic Kindle for under $100. The iPad is wonderful but it's a computer, not an e-reader, and it's priced accordingly. The Kindle Fire is basically a "budget" version of an iPad.

It's funny to look up a few posts and see how completely wrong the "insider's info" was from 2010.

First time I can remember hearing a Wilco song (or in this case, a cover of it) in a commercial since the good ol' Volkswagen days of '07. I got a kick out of it once I realized what I was hearing.

As someone who recently moved to Arizona after spending his whole life in northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin, I just hope the midwestern folk realize how lucky they are to get to see the band multiple times a year. It was something I took for granted. They just played in Phoenix and I don't expect to see them again for another 2-3 years.
