the job of a reviewer is to give you his/her opinion of it. it's not free advertising.

That's a bit misleading... well, simplistic anyhow. Singapore has a large percentage of healthcare paid for privately, as in, there is an increased onus on individual responsibility. But that individual responsibility manifests itself, in large part, in the Medisave program, which is a forced savings program administered by the government. They still have an emergency program for low income earners and for catastrophic - and costly - illnesses. There is also private insurance, but it operates a lot differently than the current American system. Effectively, it's two tier, which is not what the

Way to read the interview and then pull something out of context... "The lackluster spirit even pervades the song titles" Feel free to disagree with him, but taking that sentence and distilling the entire interview down to "SBS is weak because the song titles are simplistic" is far more disingenuous then the actual review. Similar thing for the AGiB review.

yeah, i sort of agreed as well. Not with everything, but about the general sentiments. Mitchum tends to be one of the more enjoyable scribes over at PFork... and I'm not just saying that because we're on the same page about this one.

What Are Your Top Three Unheard of Bands, Just For Fun...

Do you know what the deal is with the stuff he was recording with Marcie Bolen? -
I wouldn't really say that there was a "bad" seat in the Orpheum. Maybe right in the front (ironically) if you're way off to the side. But other than that, they're all pretty good. Is it safe to assume that everyone got tix?

Vince McMahon is a grade A scumbag, but I think it's worth noting that they gave the green light for that tribute thing before they knew what the circumstances surrounding the deaths were.

There's only one price on the TM listing: clicky and when there's reserved seating in the front for a show at Malkin Bowl, there are usually varying prices: clicky to be honest, i'd kinda prefer assigned seating, so i dont have to show up so early.

I'm a pretty huge Ryan fan, but after giving it a lot of spins, I'm inclined to rank it worse than everything except 29. The arrangements and playing are nice, but the way it's produced makes it sound way too glossy and adult-con. As for the songwriting, the melodies are really strong on the whole, but the lyrics are lazy and disjointed. I mean, Ryan wasn't actually "the next Dylan" before, but some of the words on this record are almost cringe-worthy, and they aren't backed by the upbeat poppy arrangements that RockNRoll had. Plus, while their might be less out and out bombs than some of his

And they are failing miserably. This kind of thing makes people not want to buy CDs. -
if you're not already convinced... Either/Or and XO should be your next purchases.

Arcade Fire & LCD Soundsystem Tour
street spirit replied to virtualreason's topic in Someone Else's Song
I really hope they add more dates and make this an actual tour. -
When I saw Lucinda Williams there the front section was seated and there was GA "lawn seating" behind it. But when I saw Bright Eyes there it was a GA standing/sit on the grass set up. No one should be disappointed about it moving from the Orpheum, it's about half the capacity, and it's one of the nicest places to see a show in Vancouver. The Orpheum is nice, but like Judy said, it was a bit weird last time around. I think Jeff even mentioned "you know you can stand"... except, actually, we were told not to.

YAY! as long as it doesn't rain (cross your fingers, knock on wood, good vibes, pray, etc now), Malkin Bowl is a great place to see a show (seated or GA).
-
i'm going to boldly predict Malkin Bowl. Blue Rodeo just announced two dates there the same week, and HoB likes to book shows in close proximity so they can set up the lighting rigs and leave them up. also, i'd really like it to be Malkin Bowl.
-
the Orpheum holds around 2800 people... so if they're moving up, it's quite a jump in capacity after that. I'm not sure what Deer Lake Park holds, but it's got to be upwards of 8-10k and TBird can be over 20, 000 easy. If they're downsizing on the other hand, Malkin Bowl in August would be awesome. (capacity = 1500) or the Centre holds just under 2000, I think.

wish they had played these last time they came to Vancouver. -
last time they came i snagged row 1 (and Dreamin' Judy was kind enough to buy my other tix off of me ). i also realize that last time they came i didn't have a digital camera, which speak to how long it's been (not incl. Jeff solo)
