  1. I thought they were pretty good live the couple times that I've caught them (once when they were actually playing and once at a festival). I like this better than most anything on the last record, but it makes me wonder just what they'll do live. there doesn't seem to be in any guitar or non-programmed drumming. edit: actually, i guess that thing that sounds like a keyboard lead could be a delayed guitar.
  2. he's a dick, but i saw him acoustic last year, and it was surprisingly good.
  3. It's not his fault, but he seems to attract assholes for some reason. The roughest mosh pit I've ever been at was a Matthew Good Band Show in 2000... a girl broke her wrist. Also, I obviously can't speak to whether the allegations that he was a prima donna backstage are true or not in this case, I can say that i worked on a show a couple of years ago and he was an insufferable prick to the (almost entirely volunteer) staff, even though they went out of their way to bend over backwards for him. He also had a wrench thrown at him later in the evening... which was a bit harsh and also unrelated
  4. i think they'd be obliged to pay for shipping though, since it's mostly unsolicited items... this would clearly result in me shipping each disc back in a tv box, via airmail, "protected" by 50 pounds of bricks.
  5. It seemed like he was borderline to make the cut anyhow. Apparently theyre going to "call him up" when their farm team has days off so he can tick off the suspension a few games at a time. edit: now the AHL's suspended him for a month.
  6. it's not really their fault that the north american currencies are both so relatively low. in the UK 40 pounds has roughly the same purchasing power as $40, when it comes to a lot of things. isn't people taking some sort of interest in what you say and then replying to it the point of a message board?
  7. this beats out the Stars digital release for coolest industry related move of the year... i hope the music lives up to it. $80 is a lot, but you do get a double-vinyl, the cd, another cd with bsides, lyric booklets, and the digital download on Oct. 10th... and the whole lot is encased in a hardcover book and a slipcase. it's not all that pricey considering what you're receiving.
  8. sorry, what i was trying to say was, once you leave your feet, it's no longer on the border of anything. if you just hit someone in the head, it's up to the discretion of the ref to make the initial (probably intent to injure) call, and up to the league after the fact... that's borderline. anyhow... i was being nitpicky. i do think he would've done time if he left his feet or not. his elbow came up and the nhl was looking to make an example out of someone who wasn't chris pronger.
  9. there wasn't really anything borderline about it. never mind the fact that he went out of his way to make it a head shot, once you leave your feet when delivering a check it's automatically boarding.
  10. I saw the Magnetic Fields and Andrew Bird there a few years back... amazing place to see a show.
  11. and beth ditto taking her clothes off... and that guy from deerhunter getting naked... and tim from LSF in his underwear
  12. I was never big on the whale, but the truly ugly part is the VANCOUVER in big letters. I know where the team is from, and it makes everything cluttered, especially on the captain's/assistant captains' jerseys. Glad they went back to the original colour scheme though.
  13. the Canucks injury list is disturbingly long right now... hopefully it's not a sign of a trend for the season. On the bright side, we actually have a decent number of good looking prospects who have a chance of cracking the line up for the first time in... maybe ever. Oh, and we still have that Luongo guy.
  14. except mine have blue stripes/soles currently, i have these on:
  15. was "Lover's Spit" the only (proper) BSS tune that they played?
  16. according to I Am Fuel, You Are Friends, Darkbreaker is the Elizabethtown Sessions
  17. the best part about this is that there's already a Mark Olson related thread down there. i always wonder how all these clueless PR labels maintain clients... and then i remember that most record labels are also clueless.
  18. I don't have the exact setlist, because I'm clearly a bad VC'er, but I will say that this show was a long time coming (almost 4 years!) for Vancouver. Similar setlist to Calgary a couple of nights ago, minus Company, Hummingbird, Outtamind, and Wheel, but plus Pot Kettle Black, Red Eyed and Blue>I Got You, Monday, and TOO FAR APART! First time I've seen them touring the new record, and it really seemed like they were turning up the "rock." And if Nels was any worse for wear, he certainly wasn't showing it.
  19. they can be hit or miss live, but for $15, id probably take a chance.
  20. Whiskeytown - New York Angel Saturday Looks Good to Me - When You Got to New York
  21. me too. Anytime they play Hard to Imagine or Lowlight, i'd say you got your money's worth.
  22. definitely... and jokes aside, she'll actually use it for food too.
  23. Trapped in the Closet is my ringtone... specifically, the part in chapter one where he sings about his cell phone ringing and his failed attempts to switch it to "viiiiiiiibrate." my ringtone is meta!
  24. in Vancouver the openers are Joel RL Phelps & the Downer Trio... they're local, so I dunno about the rest of the dates. I think I might be at the Van. show.
