  1. anyone else having trouble bringing up ye olde pink pig today?... all my torrents are now unconnected too.
  2. I really like Ryan, but this is kinda crappy, imo. The lyrics on all the songs that weren't rescued from leaked demos from years ago are really bad, and to top that off, he has a tendency to force too many words in where they don't fit. The arrangements are really nice, but the production sounds totally adult-con.
  3. great spot... and if they need something smaller, Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park is great too.
  4. i'm counting there's a lot of time between the Peg and Seattle though.
  5. the loudness issue has nothing to do with the bitrate... that all depends on the source. as for whether you can tell the difference or not, that comes down to personal preference. although, it's doubtful that anyone could blindly tell the difference between 320kbps (which i find a bit overkill usually) and lossless. i like ripping with LAME at V2/APS. the file size is pretty manageable, and i can't discern any difference in sound, esp on my ipod.
  6. In some ways I can see where Jack is coming from, because things have changed so much... But does anyone remember when artists were excited to hear their albums on the radio?
  7. I second "Kicking Television"... it's not the same old subject matter for a protest song, and the message is a lot deeper than the simple lyrics suggest. Although, if I were you I would do "Fuck the Police" or something. Of course, I was a total smartass bastard in high school.
  8. that's a classic... but i dunno if i'd call it "melodic," and it's most definitely gangsta... like, hella gangsta, if you will. Ghostface Killah - Save Me Dear Outkast - Southernplayalisticadillacmusik the Fugees - Ready or Not Kanye West - We Don't Care Lupe Fiasco - Kick, Push
  9. bump! for... the Stanley Cup friggin Final! I think I'm supposed to cheer for Ottawa because they're the Canadian team, and apparently that is what you're supposed to do. But I'd like to see Teemu bag a cup. On the other hand, it would be nice to see the Sens win so that everybody will shut up about this "no team has won a cup with a European captain" thing. The Preds are SOLD To a guy that his itching to put another team in Southern Ontario. The Predators have a release clause in their lease that they can apparently trigger this June, due to low attendance again this year. On the other ha
  10. not in order: Sleater-Kinney Cat Power Wilco Ryan Adams Whiskeytown the Jesus and Mary Chain Manic Street Preachers Radiohead Broken Social Scene Destroyer the Smiths Fiery Furnaces the Constantines Sonic Youth Spiritualized Wu-Tang Pearl Jam the Hold Steady Blood Brothers Pavement
  11. $18 CDN for the deluxe ed. here (it was exactly $5 cheaper for the reg. edition)
  12. I like the record, but I fail to see what's daring about it... sounds like 70s fm radio.
  13. Apparently she's doing a second Covers Record first, and then she's writing/recording the new songs. linky
  14. Sleater-Kinney: Dig Me Out The Hot Rock All Hands on the Bad One One Beat The Woods
  15. After seeing them on tour post-Rehearsing My Choir, I really like the songs now... but I still hate the studio versions on the album. Does anyone have a bootleg from the "we're not bringing keyboards and instead will play our guitars at 11"* tour from last year? *my name, not theirs
  16. I love them so much, I audibly gasped when I opened the PFork story and it was revealed that this "US tour" contained no Pacific NW dates.
  17. I wasn't really that big on either record, but "Lola Stars and Stripes" is a massive choon.
  18. I agree, but based on how much better the John's solo piano demo of "Real Love" is, I wish they'd just give us that instead. Alternately, I wish they had put this out in the Anthology series instead of digging it up a decade later when Paul needed some cheap publicity.
  19. it's not the band i hate, it's their fans... sorry, someone had to do it.
  20. Just got this CD in the mail today, and I'm quite pleased that it isn't going to be relegated to the stack of crappy promos on my desk. The lead singer/songwriter plays a lapsteel so it's sort of country-ish... but it seems kind of show-gazey to me as well. http://www.myspace.com/thelasttownchorus
  21. That 2005 show at the Gorge might be the best PJ show I've ever seen.
  22. on a positive note, at least some of us will be around to tell some others of us, "i told you so"
  23. "Angel in the Snow" is my favourite Elliott song... nice to have it all cleaned up, soundwise.
