Daily Kos broke the story: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/11/6/1717/68014 But ABC's picked it up and confirmed that the FBI are investigating: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/20...nia_intimi.html and an mp3, if you're so inclined: http://www.msgeek.com/mediastuffs/GOP-VA-V...ressionCall.mp3

"I Voted For A Loser" Commiseration Thread
street spirit replied to Atticus's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
If it weren't bad enough already, in Ohio a similar question that passed is now being used by defense attorneys to have domestic abuse cases thrown out of court. The laws only protect spouses... and if a dude beats his straight common law girlfriend, it ain't spousal abuse anymore. They can, of course, be charged for regular ol' abuse, but the burden of proof is much higher. but, of course, if they weren't living in sin (like all teh homos) they'd be protected by god'sthe state's laws... and yknow... bitch wouldn't get hit if she just did what she was told. -
Craig gave me a beer when they came out for the encore at the Vancouver show how many of your favourite bands do that? and they rocked, of course.

i actually havent been down to zulu (i live in Richmond, so i just looked around here and at A&B Sound on SW Marine)... the guy at A&B knew what I was talking about but didn't know when they were getting it, but he said they should be.
-
is this actually being released here? i figured i'd just go pick it up at the store... but i came up empty... in three places... i even resorted to HMV.
-
these guys are from Vancouver... not doing anything esp original, but they do what they do pretty damn well. if you're into Exile era Stones you might want to check'em out... in fact, someone should get Analogman in this thread. they got screwed over by a major label, but rather than scrape up the money to buy back the master, they recorded an EP on a shoestring budget and have put it out for free: http://lionsinthestreet.net/home.cfm

He'll have to dumb things down a bit so it fits in with the current state of American political discourse. I say that as a citizen of a nation whose government has been wrapped up in whether or not an MP called another MP a dog for the last two weeks (clearly the most important thing the government could possibly be discussing)... I feel your pain.

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

I saw it a couple years ago. It was pretty enjoyable. err... I mean, you should only watch it if you support dictatorships, because there's no entertainment value in something that tells a story from a different bias than yours. And all those poor latins have been brainwashed by the Communists. Conversely, I've only been indoctrinated with the purest truths! seriously though, it was pretty entertaining if you're into political documentaries, regardless of whether you love/hate/are indifferent to Chavez. -
Attn: Vinyl Enthusiasts - Please Help a Vinyl Newb
street spirit replied to thebunk's topic in Someone Else's Song
i have a crappy mono, built-in-speaker unit that i'm quite happy with... but expensive turntables definitely sound better. i mostly just have vinyl that i found cheap and used or stuff that isn't on cd though. i would also point out that on many newer releases, the mastering sucks all the life out of the recording anyhow, so the "warmer" vinyl sound doesn't make a whole lot of difference. esp if its digitally mastered. -

The Blood Brothers - Young Machetes
street spirit replied to jeremycarie's topic in Someone Else's Song
if you like them theyre pretty rad live. and trail of dead are always great... even when theyre touring behind a crap record. i've already got tix for their show here in December. If they're touring in Detroit with Celebration that's an added bonus, imo. -
I wonder if this will boost sales of the Rock Rod. I went to Duran Duran's press conference last time they were here, it was hilariously awesome.
-
it weirds me out that they never heard from the powerbook dude again.

I actually found Califone a bit boring live when I saw them... good, but not terribly exciting. But I just moved to the back and shut my mouth like a decent human being.

Morrissey's only fall US appearance
street spirit replied to candyfloss1214's topic in Someone Else's Song
so... he won't play in Canada because the government let's people kill seals... but he'll play in the US even though the government started an illegal war? hokay. i still dig his music, for the record. -
owl please credit me for the photo you stole (independent) so, i was thinking about photos. photographs. those things that save the images in our minds. [insert convoluted partially related 1200wd prose] 8.5 [best new music]

fixed it for you.

"Sea Legs" is sorta... terrible.
-
the EP's still my favourite... but add me to the chorus that says its one of the best of the year, for sure. I dunno if I'd say light years ahead of the first full length. One song doesn't make an album, but "Ambulance" is right up there with "Staring at the Sun" and "Wolf Like Me" as one of the band's single finest moments.

Even More goodies with Wowee Zowee reissue
street spirit replied to Dr. Steve Brule's topic in Someone Else's Song
you can also email matador and theyll sort it out for you. has anyone d/l the leak of the reissue? im curious as to whether the alt mix of "We Dance" still has the fade out at the end... or if you can hear the "five times forever and you'll never get lost" without cranking her up. cause... im making a tape for my girlfriend. and we dig that song. -
both Jim's (Jimi and Jimmy) Brian May Mick Jones (good call, whomever said that before me) Johnny Marr Lee Ronaldo (it's not about how well you play, it's about the noises you can coax out of a plank and some strings) Slash (even though his new band is so terrible. so very bad) Prince
