I really like Its Never Been Like That. "If I Ever Feel Better" (from their first record) is also one of the finest slices of pop music ever.

Anyone have any questions for Explosions in the Sky?
street spirit replied to Deaf Ro's topic in Someone Else's Song
ask them why they always "tentatively" schedule vancouver into their tour plans and then break my heart by not playing here. -
to celebrate my ratio getting up over 2.0 again... i have 5 invites to everyone's favourite torrent site to give out. please please please make sure you have some working knowledge of torrents... and try to keep a good ratio up, unlike most of my hack friends. also, if youve cheated your ratio or got kicked off before and i get stripped of invite privelages for inviting you, im totally going to come back to this thread and tell everyone what a jerk you are. just leave your email addy (obfuscate it or whatever) in this thread. first five, first served. im heading out for most of the day

let's talk more about Banksy, who is awesome. -
now if the bad guys just choose to fire the one out of ten or so missiles that will actually get hit. fool proof!

EMP could easily suck up that entire afternoon, and then some. If you're into cool architecture, the downtown library is friggin amazing.

Is a really really beautiful record. I was a bit skeptical when I heard it was 5 songs ringing in at an hour, but these songs are wonderful. For those of you who were turned off by her voice previously, you should give her another chance with this one, as there's much less "quirk" in it. The orchaestration is lush, but not overbearing, and the wonderful harp is still very up front in the mix. And the lyrics are still full of wonder and whimsy. If that doesn't convince you, the record ruining, Mr. Jim O'Rourke, got his paws on recording/production process (along with Steve Albini and Van Dyke

i wish they would put out a cleaned up version of Sermon vs Gospel... although the demo is still awesome.

i knew about elliottsmithbsides.com, but not trash treasury... thanks for the link. -
i brought back a couple of 24 packs of the champagne of beers after visiting your fine nation a couple weeks ago. at 60 cents a can it's approximately 1/2 the price of the absolute cheapest beer in BC.

The North Korean army "reserves the right to undertake a pre-emptive action for self-defense against the enemy at a crucial time it deems necessary to defend itself," good thing no one's tried to set that precedent... oh wait. in all seriousness though, i agree that it's probably "bluster"

Back of the bus for you black children
street spirit replied to John Smith's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
"A new solution reached Monday by School Board officials has a black bus driver driving across town to pick up the nine black children." i'm sure that will do a ton to downplay any racial division. -
Favorite Elliott Smith album?
street spirit replied to Alastor The Great's topic in Someone Else's Song
Either/Or although i don't buy into the argument that quality went down as production values went up, i just like those songs the best. this: http://www.elliottsmithbsides.com/Yeti.htm is my favourite elliott song though. i think its on the From a Basement demos too, but i like this recording better, the little solo thing is higher in the mix. -
it's gotta be a production thing, Brian Wilson couldn't pen a pop song if his life depended on it.

Castaways is still my favourite... Grace Cathedral Hill!!!!

So it looks like the new Dylan finally leaked...

I love how all these sites are picking this up and saying Bob hates modern compositions, but if they bothered to read the article he's just talking about recording/production values. -
if you only have Fishscale, you might want to pick up Supreme Clientele first... it seems to be the "consensus" pick of the Ghostface records.
-
i do enjoy tinymixtapes very roundabout and almost nonsensical news style though.
-
if i were to pick "greatest" this would be much different, but these are my faves... 1. Wu-Tang Clan - 36 Chambers 2. GZA - Liquid Swords 3. The Fugees - The Score 4. Biggie - Ready to Die 5. Outkast - Southernplayalisticaddilacmusik 6. Ghostface - Pretty Toney 7. Raekwon - Cuban Linx 8. Jay-Z - the Black Album 9. Outkast - Stankonia 10. Dr. Dre - the Chronic

i havent really listened to this enough times to pass solid judgement... but i sure hope it matches up to Picaresque, because Picaresque was weeeeeeeaaaaaaak.

They're pretty good... but I don't get all the hype. Well, I guess the hype is because of the PFork review now... but I don't get why they got such a high rating. It's fun, but I'm not really compelled to listen to it all that much.

it's back up on oink.. in vbr, no less.
-
ok... this nowhere near Push the Button... that song is pop genius. but its not terrible. the rest of the record is pretty terrible. i'll admit to downloading it out of morbid curiousity... and hoping it would boost my oink ratio... but mostly because i wanted to hear it. both Promiscious Girl and Maneater are great.
