explodo
I keep trying to get into that but I can't do it. It's good, sure, but you have to wonder why it's getting all this hype while the better Hawk and a Hacksaw albums skate by with little notice.
oatmealblizzard
Word Here, to make it easy-- His writings on pop (probably the single best piece I've ever read on Radiohead): http://www.therestisnoise.com/popular/index.html Starter classical recordings: http://www.therestisnoise.com/top_10_summer_hits/index.html Popular vs. classical music: http://www.therestisnoise.com/2004/05/more_to_come_6.html Really great essay more or less laying out a definition of music: http://www.therestisnoise.com/2004/05/grove_dictionar.html And a short primer on Ligeti: http://www.therestisnoise.com/2004/05/ligeti_2001.html Okay, shut this guy up already Thanks for this, Ro. This is all great stuff. I remember reading a couple of these way back when, but I am really enjoying them all on this rather slow Saturday night. NP:Disc One

It's good, sure, but you have to wonder why it's getting all this hype while the better Hawk and a Hacksaw albums skate by with little notice.i'm with you... i can understand what some people find enjoyable about it, but other than a few tracks (namely Postcard From Italy, which rules) i just am not that into it. the stuff that sounds like a Bar Mitzvah, etc... as far as that sorta sound goes, i think DeVotchka make it a bit more accessible and enjoyable, even if i'm not super into them either. the NMH comparisons are a bit silly IMO. not saying that there's not some influence, but quality-wise, while the kid is talented for 19, not even close. brianjeremy
I keep trying to get into that but I can't do it. It's good, sure, but you have to wonder why it's getting all this hype while the better Hawk and a Hacksaw albums skate by with little notice. I'm not sure why it's getting so much attention. I think it's alright, but nothing huge. I do think that Postcard from Italy rules (best song released this year? I dunno, but it makes me happy) but other than that it's just alright. I see the NMH comparison though and think that it's geared towards tohe music end rather than the lyrical end. I haven't even checked out Hawk and a Hacksaw yet. What am I missing?
