Great Song Endings

Recommended Posts

I'm inspired by the great long songs thread to ask what song endings stand out in your mind, either because of long jams or stunning finales. I've always toyed with the idea of making a great song endings mix. A few for me:

Springsteen, Darkness on the Edge of Town

Petty, Don't Come Around Here No More

Dire Straits, Romeo and Juliet

i know a lot of people disagree, but the long ending when the piano kicks in on Layla

Hey jude is another obvious one (longest fade-out ever, i read somewhere)

that little solo at the end of Roadhouse blues

Kashmir, when the ascending riff starts and bonham comes in with those various drum fills

as for romeo & juliet mentioned above, i think that song has one of the best ever intro's (instead of ending)

I can only add one more, and that would be "Won't Get Fooled Again", when they have the fake ending, and Roger just unleashes the most primal scream ever recorded in a rock song, and then sings probaly the most prophetic lyrics ever in a rock song ("Meet the new boss, same as the old boss"). Hard to argue against those, although I'll also throw in "Rosalita" when he says "Well my tires were slashed and I almost crashed, but the lord had mercy". That is amazing.

Since I was recently introduced to Born To Run, the ending of "Thunder Road" is now probably my favorite song ending. I usually listen to it on the way to work, so Im pulling in around the ending and getting all fired up and happy, then I go into work and it goes away. But its a great way to start the day!

Roxanne - The Police

For some reason, when the drums hits the double time, I get goosebumps. One of my favorite moments in Rock and Roll History. Like that G chord Dylan hits after the end of the first verse of Hurricane. Anybody?

Yes. I have always loved that exact moment of Roxanne. :cheers
