austrya
We were at Moe's for lunch today and my 22 month old heard Slow Ride playing on the radio there. He stopped what he was doing and put his finger on his ear to indicate that he could hear it. Then he looked around the room. I think he was looking for the person playing Guitar Hero... They named him Blackie Chan.

Gobias Industries
So I got SMG today for an excellent price (37$), and I've played for about an hour (12 stars), and man, is this game mindblowing. The scope of the game is huge, and it made my brain hurt within the first minute with all the different things you could do, run on planets and be upside down, just basically everything. My only gripe has been the camera, and how little you can change it to adapt to your situation, but it hasn't really gotten me into enough trouble to be legitimate. Well worth the money
alison the wilca
Link's Crossbow Training rocks.i beat that game the other night. Its neat but I was told it would unlock Duck Hunt and it didn't!

You got 12 stars in an hour?! It's taken me 10 hours to get 23. My 6 year old got a Wii for Christmas and we've been having a lot of fun together. I haven't been this into a game in 20 years. Definitely worth the $

I've been gaming pretty much my entire conscious life (and a Nintendo-only player to boot), starting from Super Mario World on SNES, progressing to N64 with stuff like Ocarina of Time, and through Gamecube with stuff like Wind Waker, and now to the Wii, which has had a very strong year, with titles like Twilight Princess (it's been a little over a year since this release but whatever) and now Super Mario Galaxy...and of course, their line of handhelds alongside it (Game Boys, DS). I've found that the more gaming experience one has, the easier it is to figure out what you need to do.

I play at a snail's pace, having not played anything but Mario Cart (a couple times) since the 80s. I was pretty good at the old Sega (pre Genesis) system back in the day but by no means a gamer. I am loving this game, though.
trevor
still don't understand how you got 12 stars in an hour. that doesn't make any sense to me... but yeah, the game rocks.
augurus
still don't understand how you got 12 stars in an hour. that doesn't make any sense to me... but yeah, the game rocks.Even though each galaxy is pretty vast, the game provides this linearity so that beginners don't fall astray and get confused. And if you move along without touching too much, you could get to most of the initial stars under 3 minutes. When most players get to the Speedy Comets, they realize that they spend a lot of time to exploring the worlds. When you complete the Speedy Comet challenges, you will realize that you have a lot of room for improvement as well. I prefer to explore my surroundings first. Right now, working on star 101. By the way, purple star in Toy Time is the hardest challenge I've come across by a large margin in Galaxy.
explodo
By the way, purple star in Toy Time is the hardest challenge I've come across by a large margin in Galaxy. That one was intense. The hardest bit in the game by, as you said, a large margin. You need some excellent long-jump skills and a lot of luck. And yeah, I'm not sure twelve stars in an hour is too many. If you've played Mario 64 you know all of the controls so you can kind of plow through the intro and those first couple galaxies.
ZenLunatic
Now at 117 stars. Damn this game gets tough at the end.

twirm
I got my wii for christmas. So far I've kicked my dog in the head while bowling, and punched my bff in the eye while playing tennis. I jutting got mario galaxy a week ago and I'm completely dominating it.

Actually, as soon as I figured out that there's more than 100 coins spread across the stage, I passed without a problem. It's also nice to have a route in mind as you tackle this star. tongue-tied
if it helps, i went counter-clockwise and long-jumped a lot. good luck with that, it's a challenge, though i found the dreadnought coins to be more frustrating.
explodo
You really need to long jump and get those long strands of coins right when you start out. Also, being able to jump off the edges, grab the packets of four or five coins hovering in space and spin back onto the platform will help. That part, in my opinion, is less important, though. There's a video on YouTube of a guy getting all of the coins. Pretty awesome to watch.
twirm
thanks for giving it all away from me. i'm just now trying to beat that big mole.
augurus
That route is what I need to figure out. How long to figure out which route to take and accomplish it? an hour? any sugguestions?Clockwise, counter-clockwise? It's very open-ended. As long as you continue to move, you won't sink nor will you lose to the clock. I went clockwise and made sure to long jump across that weird quadrant.

augurus
does anyone want to tell me how to beat this stupid mole? All of Galaxy's bosses require simple strategies to defeat them. Don't think too hard. If you know how to initiate the fight, then you've known the answer the entire time.
