i have an acousitc guitar that my mom bought my dad for christmas one year before they got married, i think in 1977. he never learned how to play, and the guitar got neglected until about 2001 when i started taking some lessons. it's a gorgeous gibson epiphone, and i wouldn't part with it for anything...

I think I listed my guitar stuff a while back, but since then I've aquired an Ampeg Reverberocket (reissue, 50 watt) and a Taylor 414 acoustic.

I dumped my Epiphone Valve Junior head and my Peavey Classic 112E Cabinet (and some other stuff) as trades towards the Taylor. In the six days since I got the Taylor my playing has improved considerably...I've started learning Travis picking and have even relearned some of the material from my short stint taking classical guitar classes.

Electric: 1962 Epiphone Casino

Acoustic: Epiphone Hummingbird

I also occasionally use my roommate/bandmates Gibson SG for gigs, depending on the situation.

And of course, I have a pile of cheap guitars & assorted string instruments (banjo, mandolin, lap steel, etc), a piano, and an antique pump organ (built in Germany in the 1890's)

I used to have a crappy epiphone acoustic that I got for my first acoustic, but when I bought my new one (Epiphone JL Signature Acoustic/Electric, pretty nice for $500) I gave that one to my best friend since he was trying learn guitar without actually owning one.

Some day I'd like to have the skill level to buy a nice electric, but I think for now I'm just going to buy my friends Fender Mexican Strat for like $200 and then practice (practice, practice) until I feel I get good enough and am in the right place financially where I can drop upwards of half a g on a guitar.

Some impressive collections here...

I have a trust 1949 Martin 00-18 that helps me compose most of my songs. It's well-worn, with some hairline cracks and a whole mess of dings and dents on it.

My main instrument is bass, and I use a Warwick Thumb 4 neck-thru. I like my strings as old as possible and I use a ProCo Rat and a cheapo Ibanez overdrive. I have an Akai Deep Impact, too, which I love, but the damn thing is unreliable, recently producing hideous shrieks and feedback for some reason. I think the jacks are, well, jacked.

I also mess around on an Epiphone Les Paul semi-hollowbody, a microKorg synth, and a crappy Squier P-Bass tuned BEAD.

any NY/NJ people been here ?

Mart ?

Been there about 21 or 22 trillion times, Drew. Grew up less than a mile from there. One of the pre-eminent vintage guitar facilities on earth. CF Martin refers people to them when they want work done to their old Martins.

So many stories about limos waiting outside and wondering who's in the store (McCartney's been there several times, George Harrison was a regular, and many many other guitar luminaries have made the trip to Staten Island)... they restored Wes Mongomery's Gibson L-5 before it was handed to the Smithsonian or some other similar museum, they've done so much work to McCartney's Hofner bass...

The best is that they're not snobs at all. Stan is a very friendly guy. You can sit in there for hours and play whatever instrument you like, even if it's clear that you're not going to be dropping 12 grand on an old Martin.

We spent almost the whole day there before the ryman show last year, guys were super cool, let us play anything we wanted. The guy also told the boys(wilco) had dropped some coin in there earlier in the day :rock

When I was 18 (before the car wreck that ruined my left hand), I picked this up from a jazz guitarist that used to play with my dad...
