quarter23cd
Okay, finally got my first listen to these after a veeeery long day at work.(well, its on repeat, so I guess I'm on my 3rd or 4th listen by now) And I love em. Either Way is the only one I'm a little iffy about so far. Pretty (and I loved the live versions I've heard) but I'm still not sure about it as an opener. The solo and the "maybe the sun will shiiiiiiiiiine today" late in the song are huge redeeming factors, so I guess I dig it. You Are My Face is so much better than I ever dreamed it would be! These are some of my favorite Tweedy lyrics in a while. Huge thumbs up on that one. And even tho Walken is a bit slower than some of the live versions, it hits a nice groove so I'm ok with it. I really don't think these songs are as "soft" as some people have made it out to be...or at least not that radically different than what Wilco has always done. There's less noise here, so the songs are more naked...not deconstructed or obscured by noise...but that's kind of refreshing, actually.
uncle wilco
is there any song in the style of the dandy warhols' "bohemian like you" on the new album? wilco ought to cover that one someday. in fact, i wished they write a few numbers like that. just wondering. i'm still holding firm and not listening until the release date. a.miller
I broke down and listened. You Are My Face is so damn good. Someone here said ethereal harmonies - exactly. Pretty cool stuff. I actually think I like Either Way a little better than Walken.

fletcher
Anyone else hear "The Boxer" in "You Are My Face"? Oh my god, I hope you're right.
John Michael
This: After hearing these three songs, once each, twice for You Are My Face, I can safely say that Sky Blue Sky is the latest Wilco album. is the best review I've heard yet. Here's why: Almost every record Wilco has put out is followed by controversy and evokes the hate of fans and critics alike. The general alt. rock community scoffed at Being There, and YHF got them dropped from their label. I mean, what is Wilco without controversy and change? I guess AGIB came out smoothly enough though... So the review and hearing the music only confirms for me that this album is, in fact, going to be a wilco album. Also, Wilco is coffee table music in that for practicality I never put the cds away. They generally find their way to the coffee table for easy access.
quarter23cd
The general alt. rock community scoffed at Being ThereI don't remember this. I don't know if it was a scoff so much as just indifference. Wilco was far from "trendy" until all the YHF hoopla, for better or for worse. Its true that each album brings change (which is good)--and with that inevitably comes controversy among some fans. Everybody has their favorites, but I dunno that I'd call them a controversial band, really.
John Michael
I think you're right, controversial is probably not the right word. But it's hard to put your finger on what "Wilco" is, and I think that's why some people don't like them, especially critics.
You Can Be The Stone
I can't wait until the first review compares "Impossible Germany" to a Grateful Dead tune. Jeff as Bob, Nels as Jerry. atease has compared I.G. to Television... which is accurate.
froggie
Some blog mentioned Paul Simon. Anyone else hear "The Boxer" in "You Are My Face"? and that aint a bad thing
Calexico
I am no huge fan boy concerning Wilco. I do enjoy them but I don't consider them genius or anything. I really like Either Way and You Are My Face is excellent. Walken, I could take or leave that since the day I heard it. No Jim O'Rourke this time is there? The songs seem to be less cluttered to me, simple good songs. How bad is that?
ction
I don't remember this. I don't know if it was a scoff so much as just indifference. Wilco was far from "trendy" until all the YHF hoopla, for better or for worse. Me neither. I certainly don't remember Being There alienating fans of the band (not that there were all that many compared to now), especially since it wasn't a dramatic departure from AM. I seem to remember it getting a great review in Rolling Stone though.
caliber66
Too bad he misspelled kabob, bonus for getting mannequin right though. It's very difficult to misspell kebab. I haven't listened to any of the new songs - aside from that live video of the song that didn't make the album. That first review was pretty funny, though.
quarter23cd
I seem to remember it getting a great review in Rolling Stone though.4.5 stars, wasn't it? Maybe just 4. But I remember the long, glowing review...which I remember thinking was pretty cool for a band that (at the time) nobody I knew seemed to have heard of but me. So that was pretty awesome. (even if it was just RS)

groovingdan
and that aint a bad thing I hear "Into The Mystic" by Van the Man in the beginning and ending of this song. You can even sing "We were born before the wind..." over top John's bassline.

WilcoFan
I have been listening to these 3 songs all day. They are definitely growing on me. Musically, Jeff's solo on "You Are My Face" is easily the highlight for me. He's such a great guitarist and has a style of his own.
