jhh4321
the Roots sound great. I haven't seen them live since 99-00, is the horn section a permanent thing now? if so, I'm going see them next time they come to town. I cannot wait to see them at Lollapalooza. Just listened to Things Fall Apart, amazing album and probably some of my favorite cover art of all time.
bobbob1313
Back home. Boo. Bonnaroo was awesome. Top 5 sets at Bonnaroo: 1. The Roots2. Wilco3. The Hold Steady4. The Flaming Lips5. The Police The Police sounded really good, although Stuart Copeland sounded a bit off on some songs to me. Like he could keep up the tempo or something. Still, it's the Police. They changed up alot of the arrangements, and extended some of the solos and what not. "So Lonely" was awesome. That Wilco set was probably the best I've ever seen of them. The band was in a terrific mood, and they all kept on laughing and joking in between songs and just generally enjoying themselves. They were in real rock star mode, with Mikael wearing his shades, Pat doing his rock star moves (and almost throwing a maraca into the crowd during "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart"). I loved the new songs live, and that was probably the best "Spiders" I've seen. They seem to have completely changed it up. The Hold Steady were great. I've never seen an artist as appreciative of his fans as Craig Finn. He geniunely seems to love performing. That really makes a show special. I saw a ton of bands that I had never heard before, and there are too many to list here, but I will say I'm a big Old Crow Medicine Show fan now. That was a great, great set. But the Roots stole the festival. that was an amazing, amazing set. I'm hoping a recording surfaces.

bobbob1313
Dr. Dog did a VIP show on thursday night so I caught that. They were a lot of fun, though I'd never heard them before. I thought they were really good and I look forward to checking them out.

Dr. Dog are one of the best new bands around and their live show is a lot of fun. Definitely check out their newest one, Easy Beat is also great.
oceanman
Some of the nicest gentlemen I've ever met.Amy and I were saying how they might blow up pretty big here soon.Last three shows I've seen them at had under 200 people,I think that might not last for too long, same with Wilco.Mnt. Bed and I were discussing how the scene has grown in the past year.I'm to the point of traveling long distances to see club shows.
be my demon
My top 5: 1. The White Stripes2. The Black Keys3. The Flaming Lips4. The Decemberists5. The Hold Steady I missed Wilco to be up front for the White Stripes. Man, was it worth it.
rareair
My top 5 (sat and sun only): 1. Wilco (great setlist and the video really helped compensate for my laziness in getting a good seat)2. The Hold Steady (wow. i had fun. avoided the heat with backstage view.)3. The Flaming Lips (how can that much confetti be launched at one time?)4. Ween 5. Franz Ferdinand (not looking for this at all and found myself in a field with the beer a long way out. i liked it.)
Wilco LP #7
1-Wilco... probably the best I've ever seen them play, just incredible. the delay before the last riffing on Spiders was so joyous, as was every moment of their set. I could have watched another 3 hours of that, easily.2-Tool... I went in pretty indifferent, came out blown away. They're SO POWERFUL live. The lights, the loudness, the musicianship... wow. just, wow.3-The Hold Steady... so incredible live in general. Like Wilco, they seemed to be having an incredible amount of fun on stage, and that was infectious to the crowd. I just wish more people would've been there to appreciate the amazingness.4-The Flaming Lips... the crowd for the Lips was a little too much to handle, and the whole spaceship wasn't really worth the delay it causes for the music to actually start. But, of course, they rocked very hard and overwhelmed me.5-The National... I was surprised at how awesome they were live. I felt the chills multiple times throughout their set. G_willy
1) Flaming Lips - HOLY HELL! I have seen these guys a few times but this one was amazing. We waited 6 hours to get as close to the front as we could and we were about 4 rows back. They did a "sound check" 2 hours before the show in which they played Black Sabbath war pigs... I LOVE WAYNE! they also did their own sound in which they were just hanging out around the stage for about 3 hours before the show talking with the crowd and you could just tell they were having a good time.2) DJ Shadow - as this was his last show in his US tour, you could tell he gave it every thing he had. The man is amazing live and his visual effects were crazy. He somehow had the audio synched up to the visuals...definitely someone you should check out even if you don't like DJ's.3) The Roots - I finally got a chance to see these guys, I have loved them for years but never made it to a show. they had a full brass section and for about a half an hour they had this collaboration of covers from everything to biz markee to justin timberlake...it was a great show4) Wilco - I waited 4 hours to get front row against the railing (first time ive gotten to do that for a wilco show) and yes they were AWESOME. My only comment is the setlist they played. It took jeff about a half hour to open up to the crowd. I think its because he normally hates playing festivals (in which he stated). But the crowd got into the show and so in return they definetly rocked out. I just wish they woulda planned a better setlist...5) Kings of Leon - First time I really ever heard these guys, and they rocked out pretty hard. It was really funny, the audio cut out and they had no idea until after the song was over. the crowd was really into it and cheered them on while they were playing. But when the lead singer found out...he flipped his lid, you could tell he was mouthing alot of obsenities... I thought they weren't going to return on stage. But they did and continued to rock and when they were done, the singer slammed his mic on the ground. Straight up rock n roll. sidenote, I got about an ounce and half of weed and my favorite pipe taken away from a "random search" by the tennessee state police as soon as we got in... I was pretty luck though, they only issued me a citation...I could've easily been in jail during bonnaroo I guess I learned my lesson

Killer Whales
1. The Philadelphia Experiment - I missed the lips for this, but christ was it worth it. For those that don't know, it's ?uestlove, Christian Mcbride, as well as a keyboardist and a sax player all doing jazzy funk in a MMW style (more grounded though). It was just one of the best shows I've ever seen. 2. The Hold Steady - Like said before, it was just so much fun. Everyone was rocking their hardest and the setlist was perfect. 3. Gillian Welch - I was simply blown away. Her and David Rawlings were amazing nonstop. John Paul Jones played mandolin and sang harmonies on 3 songs, and they also covered Black Star by Radiohead and To Be Young by Ryan Adams. Great set. 4. Wilco - The setlist was very typical, but I expected it since it was a festival. However, it was easily the best they've sounded of the 4 shows I've seen. All the new songs sounded outstanding (everyone I was around was blown away by IG), and stuff like Via Chicago and Spiders were the best I've heard. 5. The Slip - I had never heard of them before, but they kicked ASS. The live show was sort of a combination of Broken Social Scene and MMJ (the studio cd i bought had a lot less energy... still good though), except they were a trio. They closed with a spot-on cover of Heartbreaker by Zeppelin. They were really great. Also great were The Roots, New Orleans Klezmer Allstars, Ravi Coltrane, The White Stripes, and The Police

I actually only got to catch 3 jazz shows (philly, ravi, and lionel loueke), because of the lines and the fact that you could only see 1 show at a time. I was really looking forward to those double-bill late night shows but oh well. I heard Ornette passed out or had to stop early because the heat, which sucks for those that were there. I was at the White Stripes/Wilco at the time of his set.

G_willy
Yes... I was going down with a group of some buddies and I had just picked up... Bonnaroo was the last place I thought I would have to worry about bringing things in for.
Killer Whales
an ounce and a half??!!?? A guy I met on Friday night claimed he had 5 ounces. We also saw a guy getting arrested going into the festival Thursday morning with 3 enormous bags on his hood Also, what the hell is a dose? Everyone was asking me if I had any doses and I had no idea what the hell they were talking about...

Everyone was asking me if I had any doses and I had no idea what the hell they were talking about... doses= lsd as in a dose of acid lucky no one got taxed there. They got a deal here in TN where you actually have to (are supposed to) buy tax stamps for your illicit dope. If you get caught with weed and have no stamp they call it tax evasion and can strip you of any property you may have on the spot. This is no bullshit, you get caught without the stamp they can and have seized cash, cars, personal property. How's that for a scam? Ounce and a half....you got lucky. That's enough weight here in TN to make it an intent to distribute case instead of a posession case.

That's enough weight here in TN to make it an intent to distribute case instead of a posession case. i agree with you. however, they are only spot checking at bonnaroo because of the sheer numbers and seem to seem to use a different standard to determine when to arrest or when to give a citation. is intent to distribute a felony and does it start at one ounce in tennessee?
