So Long
sure this isn't the material released in The Wilco Book?
Lazy Locomotive
I believe it. Wilco is always fooling me, over and over, and I could easily see them releasing this album, (which many have said is a nod to their roots but also an idea of the future,)and then BLAMMO!.... out of nowhere they release an album that makes those who thought they had figured this band out rethink. aricandover
sure this isn't the material released in The Wilco Book? as I said before, some of it might be, or it might not. they never came out and said one way or the other.

welch79
this is all really exciting stuff coming to the surface here. yet i'm reminded that the album (sbs) still has yet to come out officially...
WaronWar
So I'm guessing if it does have to do with the other material they recorded that is not on the album, it would be similar to what Radiohead did with Kid A and Amensiac. Might I add another Radiohead comparison, but I'm only kidding.
TCP
Didn't Wilcoweb say that there was 18 songs recorded, and 12 of them ended up on the album? Hmm!
drag ass snag
'dada in overalls'? woah, i wanna hear it! if only o'rourke was somehow involved then i'd already be imagining it as the great lost wilco album. wonder why they scrapped it? maybe it was recorded direct into jeff's laptop, then he accidentally erased it while decluttering his hard drive of failed fingerstyle and drone demos. the next day the band were like 'jeff, we're so excited about the new record!', 'i can't wait to read the reviews!', 'let's listen to it again!'. tweedy was like, 'boys, it doesn't work. it doesn't have, er, a meaningful flow, or real, umm, y'know dynamism. let's forget it.' 'jeff, it rules!' 'it's the best thing we've ever done!' 'it's better than loose fur!'tweedy, angrily: 'guys! i've freakin decided! who's the tweedster?'others, meekly: 'you're the tweedster, jeff.'tweedy, glaring: 'that's better. don't expect to hear that record ever again.' Is Chicago Is Not Chicago
I'm at work so I can't double check. But I do think I recall in the wilcobook with the Mikael write up of the wilcobook cd songs saying that some of them did come from the dbpm sessions...

But I do think I recall in the wilcobook with the Mikael write up of the wilcobook cd songs saying that some of them did come from the dbpm sessions... it does. it talks all about the dbpm sessions. some of the songs from the CD are definitely from those sessions. i really don't understand what the confusion is on this matter. -justin
MeDave
i'm just guessing here, but i get the sense that the next next record if more of the 'dirty soul record' that was being alluded to early on in the press... songs like thanks i get, lets fight, LNGCA, and more along those lines, etc. which would have definitely ruined the peaceful easy vibe of what was becoming SBS so they decided to do two on the heels of each other rather than one. But i also expect that with time and touring and new ideas that the idea could morph even further and turn into something else entirely again.
owl
I heard that the next album is going to be their "rap" album.

danelectro
I don't doubt they have stuff in the can and are still working on new stuff, that's what Wilco has been doing since 1995, working. I don't think there is some conspiracy with SBS, that it is the mellow companion album to some rougher more sonically textured follow up. These rumors are akin to the AGIB leak being the session demos. It's fun to speculate but Wilco has never really been all that cloak and dagger. Each album has a few twists but it always sounds like Wilco, IMO they are one of the most even bands ever. If you look back no one album adheres to a specifc style or genre. With their track record as "proof" I assume the next record will be more of the same. Which is a good thing I like the Wilco sound. If they ever did record a real genre specific album it would likely be a turn off for many fans. I don't think it's a secret nor am I surprised they have some material left over from the SBS sessions. I hoped for a long time that a fully developed Cars Can't Escape would find its way on to a future release. I suppose one can hope, no harm in that. It's probably safe to assume Wilco has enough leftover material for several albums, hopefully one day an official rarities collection will be released.

danelectro
I'd like to see it on a Wilco album but since Jay did his thing with it I'm sure that's a deal killer.
you ever seen a ghost?
plus a fully-formed version (different from the one called "Rhythm" on the YHF sessions boot) was released in .mp3 form on Wilco's web site at some point. that's semi-official. a rarities compilation would be great though: Venus Stopped The Train, the b-sides, the two bonus discs...all of that compiled into a no-doubt glorious package by Nonesuch. Jeff, are you listening?? -justin
