I'll bring this up later...but Wendy, The Elbow Room! 2 blocks from the Murat, excellent pub/ restaurant for a pre-show gathering! :cheers

That's a new one for me. I only know about MacNiven's -- 119 kinds of beer and 2 blocks down Massachusettes from the Murat. Well, wherever we end up going, it will be great to meet everybody! And with reserved seats, we can spend that pre-show time having fun instead of standing in line, then at the last minute dash to the show. :dance

Holy crap!

How in the heck are they playing Chastain Park in Atlanta? That seems like a REALLY big venue for them....

hmm...

edit- on inspection of the venue website it looks really cool! (i wonder if i get a family or at least "my last name's the same!" discount? :P)

Chastain is such a bitter sweet venue for me. It should be incrediable. Outdoors large comfy seats. It is intimate for it's size. It is great if you splurge and get the seats in front of the stage they are usually (depends on the band) set up as tables and you can brign a cooler with beer/wine and have dinner as you watch the show. BUT the crowds there tend to be bad at times. Very uppity. Very Cheese & Wine. you can buy season passes and alot of folks do this becasue they tend to have a lot of old classic rock bands come through during the summer that older people go ga ga for. Some people go there more as a social gathering then to see the concert.

Now i assume wilco will have less of these people because they will have no clue who wilco is but i saw Dylan and Young there and both had some horrible people in the crowd. It was during Youngs Greendale tour and he was playing bandit (a quiet song) and the crowd was so loud neil got pissed off and cut the song off midway. He yelled at the crowd and said he would play electric songs the rest of the night so he would not have to listen to the crowd talk while he played guitar.

anyway i'm stoked. I can bring a cooler full of beer and enjoy some wilco :dancing hopefully none of those vile uppity non fans will be near me :thumbup

Wilco Unveils North American Tour Dates

April 04, 2007, 2:15 PM ET

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Wilco will begin its first batch of North American touring in support of its May 15 Nonesuch album "Sky Blue Sky" with a June 13 show in Davenport, Iowa. Dates are on the books through June 30 in Toronto but more will be added in the coming days.

Afterward, the band will visit Europe for a handful of festivals. Beginning in mid-August and stretching into September, Wilco will embark on a more extensive tour of the United States and Canada, manager Tony Margherita tells Billboard.com.

The first dates on the band's schedule are in Australia, beginning April 16 in Brisbane. At those shows, Wilco will debut the handful of "Sky Blue Sky" tracks that have yet to be played live, including "You Are My Face," "Hate It Here" and "Leave Me (Like You Found Me)."

Over the weekend, the band also announced that "Sky Blue Sky" would be available in a deluxe edition with a bonus DVD. On the latter disc will be the 48-minute documentary "Shake It Off," directed by Brendan Canty and Christoph Green ("Burn To Shine," "Jeff Tweedy: Sunken Treasure"). The film sports performances of sevn album tracks at Wilco's Chicago loft plus a Tweedy solo version of "Please Be Patient With Me."

Here are Wilco's North American tour dates:

June 13: Davenport, Iowa (Adler Theatre)

June 15: Indianapolis (Murat Theatre)

June 17: Manchester, Tenn. (Bonnaroo)

June 19: Atlanta (Chastain Park)

June 20: Charlotte, N.C. (Ovens Auditorium)

June 22: Red Bank, N.J. (Count Basie Theatre)

June 24: Northampton, Mass. (the Pines)

There's a strong possibility that you will not be allowed to bring in a cooler at this show. As nice as it is to be able to bring in a cooler and not buy $5 beers, I'd gladly leave the cooler at home if it means the people in the best seats are NOT making business deals with their associates during the concert. The tickets usually say "No Coolers" when it is a non-table set-up concert:

CHASTAIN PARK SEATING INFO

According to Chastain Park's offical website:

Chastain Park Seats are broken down into tables (each table seating accomodates 6), reserved orchestra seats, and a general admission area on the lawn. Many Chastain Park Amphitheatre events are considered"table set-up" shows, where Chastain Park patrons may bring personal-size coolers and/or picnic baskets with any food and drink desired and, for those who purchase orchestra seats, TV trays are allowed in the spacious aisles. Lawn ticket holders are allowed to bring blankets for their picnics. Some people have even been known to bring caviar and champagne; others bring a six-pack and a bucket of chicken. Table ticket holders have been known to bring tablecloths, votive candles, and silverware. Food and drink are available there at Chastain Park for purchase inside the amphitheatre from some of their full-service catering, or from concession stands. Attire at the amphitheatre ranges from very casual to almost formal.

Every so often, there is a show that is a "No Table/No Carry-Ins" show. This means that no tables will be set up and no food or drink will be allowed brought from outside the amphitheatre. No TV trays, coolers, picnic baskets or backpacks will be allowed. Blankets, however, are still allowed for Lawn ticket holders

Yeah, I plan to try to get as close to the stage seats as I possibly can. My friend Chris said that Chastain sucks as far as hearing when you get a reasonable distance from the stage....

...wow. I'm so excited about the idea of doing a Pines and Hammerstein back to back trip.

what can folks tell about the vibe of the Pines venue? places to stay? are we having a picnic?

Quite possibly the best vibe of any Wilco show I've ever been to. Just a big park with (surprise!!!) lots of pine trees ("and the smell of popcorn and pot lofting through the air"). Good times, good times.

Don't know much about the area, but I was lucky enough last year to share a room at the lovely Northampton Inn with another super-fan that I picked up along the way (thanks Lisa)!!!

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Pines last summer was a fantastic show kind of just a big lawn surrounded by trees and this sort of castle-like structure. Don't know exactly where to stay but from what I could tell its kind of in the middle of nowhere.

yeah my friends and I showed up at Pines at like 12 in the afternoon. We just hung around drank Sunny D and watched Jeff wrestle with an inflatable raft for a bit. Good times...

I wonder why Charlotte instead of Asheville. The Asheville shows/crowds have been great. The crowd at the last Charlotte show was dead. I guess I might make the trek to Charlotte. Not sure but maybe it'll work out.

so you get inside the venue that early? or just the park?

ok. this weekend can't get here soon enough. I read up the venue's site about renting a picnic table. I'm thinking about doing that for a day. it'd be fun to grill some stuff and throw a frisbee around before the show. I love a tailgate.

picnic tables

mmm. sunny d.

Just the park, but it's definitely worth spending the whole day there (and you and still hear soundcheck from beyond the pines).

I've been to Shelburne VT many times ... one of my favorite destinations. There's a museum (or two?) there, and I take it the show is on the museum grounds. Shelburne Farms (not clear if the two are affiliated) is around the corner, and has a pricey lodge, and the world's best baby farm animal petting zoo :blush for which I am a total sucker, and majestic views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack High Peaks. Just gorgeous. I'll take this over a NYC concert any day of the week.

Im on the road starting mid-to-late July. :dancing

ok! hopefully caliber s liverwurst is paying attention to this thread and will get us tickets. i'd like to see the VT show AND the pines.

I'm surprised that they picked Ovens to play at again.. I figured after the god-awful crowd there was last time, they probably would have shunned it for all eternity.

Well, Jeff takes issues with the crowd at so many shows, the list of venues he's never had problems at would be pretty damn short by now...

Besides, I thought ovens was great - one of the best sounding venues I've ever been at. That show has a special place in my heart as my first wilco show, and I'm really excited they are returning.

I just checked the Pines website and it says that tix go on sale on 4/13/07. It probably won't sell out, but I still wanted to put it out there.

The Pines is incredibly chill and beautiful. It looks like an elf castle. I encourage everyone to go. But, show up early. I showed up early (or so I thought) and they were already half way through IATTBYH (which was like the 4th or 5th song!). I almost had a heart attack when I heard it from the parking lot.

Any word on presale passwords, or if we'll even need one?

PASSWORD: iheartfricke

:)

Actually, the info page said I'll need to set up a username and password when purchasing tickets. I wonder if that's the new way?
