Ghost of Electricity
The last new one you let us listen to once a week. but now that's an old one. What about the new new one? and do we have to (or can we) stop listening to the old one once a week now?
ction
The last new one you let us listen to once a week. but now that's an old one. What about the new new one? and do we have to (or can we) stop listening to the old one once a week now? Sorry, I missed this post (between the board being down and me not caring about helping people enjoy Wilco my way). I went to see Wilco this week, btw. It was at times awesome, boring, and unpleasant. The new album is a lot like that as well, just without the awesome parts. Go buy the new Son Volt album instead. mpolak21
ction, Whilst discussing the band Wilco on a popular internet message board, what's the best reason to give for the band's creative downslide on the past few albums? Firing Jay Bennett? Jeff not wanting to write awesome songs like Misunderstood anymore? Can Ken Coomer be blamed for all of this in some way? Thanks, --mp21.

I think the following all play a role in me not liking the new Wilco as much as the old Wilco: 1. Gibson guitars. Especially the SG. Don't get me wrong, I love SGs. Ian MacKaye played an SG. Angus Young plays an SG. More importantly, Jeff Erg plays an SG. They are great guitars. I'd like an SG of my own someday. Jeff Tweedy should play a Fender. 2. Rehab. There are probably a million important reasons why this was good for Jeff Tweedy the person. I don't care about any of them. Because... 3. I'm a contrarian dickhead. 4. George W. Bush. Makin' artists all angry and artistic n shit. It's no shock that Wilco made their best music with Clinton in office - chasin' tail and livin' large. Obama gives me hope and change for the future, although things aren't off to a good start on this front (yet). The next album should be good though...

mpolak21
Dear Ralph Malph, With the current climate of the Just a Fan thread seeming as unsure as it's ever been on how to enjoy Wilco, what are your thoughts on how to enjoy Wilco this fall? Should we drink until we think Summerteeth is their newest album? Should we call Bob Egan pretending to be Jeff Tweedy and invite him back into the band? What are your thoughts? Thanks as always, --Mike.

Guest Speed Racer
Dare ya to do the Egan thing. Oh, it's already been broughten! If you do everything in order, though, you'd probably be so sauced you'd be complimenting Egan on his tremendous work on Wilco's new Summerteeth. 4. George W. Bush. Makin' artists all angry and artistic n shit. It's no shock that Wilco made their best music with Clinton in office - chasin' tail and livin' large. Obama gives me hope and change for the future, although things aren't off to a good start on this front (yet). The next album should be good though... But how many more of Wilco Mach 6 will go to rehab if they now have affordable health care and mental health parity? I find fault in your logic, grasshopper.
MattZ
You really have no ear (eye) for satire at all, do you? Maybe he doesn't find satire of that nature funny/interesting/productive? Do you? EDIT: editted to remove the second question since I don't really care what the answer is.

Guest Speed Racer
Whats with the Pat hate? Really -- this is a genuine question -- I am curious. For me: Watching Ashes especially, I noticed that every Pat contribution could be taken out and the song would have been just as awesome (Impossible Germany excepted, of course), if not more. On 90% of songs Wilco plays these days, Pat adds unnecessary filler (his solos don't count, since when he's playing them someone else whose playing I much prefer to his could easily be playing them instead). The dueling solos things doesn't do it for me, neither does his showboating. I know he's a more-than-capable musician, but (using that which is before me) Pat in Wilco is like powdered sugar on an iced donut - he's just not necessary in the context of the band, and his presence kind of annoys me. EDITED to add: Pat on Ashes reminds me of the 1997 shows when Egan was still in the band, playing his riffs over songs where they no longer belonged - October at First Ave, especially. In the interest of full disclosure: I lovedlovedloved Leroy's style (especially piano) and was sad to see him go, and the four-piece version of Wilco was my favorite. Try "I don't see it that way." instead of "That's bullsh*t!" or "I don't care for that band" rather than "That band sucks!" It's called civility. I'm not deleting your post (for now), but seriously, watch it.

Guest Speed Racer
This is one of the funniest threads in the history of this board. Seriously people, lighten up. This is the Schoolhouse Rock of VC - funny and educational. My enjoyment of Wilco has simply skyrocketed since practicing these steps in my daily life. Remember to seek progress, rather than perfection. Those just reading this thread for the first time really should apply only one step per week, otherwise these changes are a bit drastic. I fell off the wagon several times (I do love AGIB), but A.M. always welcomed me back with open arms.
moxiebean
Although I can't disagree with most of Speed Racer's points (the current Wilco's stage is mighty crowded) I still choose to enjoy Pat on MY terms.

ction
I've had Summerteeth in the car cd changer for the better part of the last month. I usually skip over it in favor of the goddamn amazingly awesome new Stephen Egerton cd, but it's still a damn fine album. Please update your programs accordingly.
