ImWalken
I don't know if any of you socal people heard about this in the last few days on the news or what not but Sir Paul McCartney played a "surprise" show at Amoeba last night and I was one of the lucky ones who were able to get in. As soon as I heard about it on Monday night, my buddy and I rushed up there and slept on the sidewalk for a night to get tickets and it was by far the best decision I've ever made. He played in front of about 700 people inside the store (even though they said it turned out to be about 900 if you factor in all the Amoeba employees). The fact that I got to see Paul McCartney play a show in front of less than 1,000 people just completely boggles my mind and it has not sunk in yet at all. It's been almost 24 hours and I still can't believe that I was in that store last night. We all know what great live music can do and how fantastic it can make you feel and last night took that feeling to the max and more. Anyways, the setlist went something like this: Drive My CarOnly Mama KnowsDance TonightSea MoonThe Long & Winding RoadI'll Follow The SunCalico SkiesBlackbirdHere TodayBack In The USSRNod Your HeadHouse Of WaxI've Got A Feeling+Jam OutroMatchbox(and then here's where it just got completely ridiculous)GET BACK HEY JUDE --------------------------Encore---------------------------LET IT BELADY MADONNAI SAW HERE STANDING THERE I don't know about you guys but this was a dream come true for me to simply be in the same building as him, let alone be 20 yards away from him while he was playing some of the best songs ever written in the history of music. His presence in a room is overwhelming and his charm and jokes on stage made me smile and laugh like never before. The guy is just unbelievable and I hope he keeps playing live shows until the day he dies. I'm sure a lot of you have seen him play before but for those of you who haven't, don't ever miss a chance to see him because it will change your life.

Elixir Sue
Wow, that sounds like a dream! It's awesome that you were able to go. Also, it's good to see something from Flaming Pie finally making it onto one of his setlists. Bring on a full U.S. tour!

ImWalken
Cool..I missed the boat for the NYC show. How long did you wait to get in total? That sounds like quite an expierence! We showed up at Monday night at about midnight which was only 5 hours after they officially announced it on the website and at that time we were about 140th in line. So we thought we were going to have to sleep there not only Monday night, but Tuesday night and they were scheduled to hand out the wristbands at noon on Wednesday. But because so many people showed up so fast, they decided to hand out numbers on Tuesday at 1:00 pm and they took down our names and our driver's license numbers so that we didn't have to sleep on the street for two nights. Then we came back on Wednesday at about noon and they checked ID and handed out all the wristbands and then we got in line according to our number and entered the store at 6:30 according to our number and then Paul came on at about 8 pm. So in total I would say I waited for about 20-24 hours but the fact that they handed out the numbers and let us go home was a life saver! I mean it was a great experience sleeping on the sidewalk with a bunch of crazy Beatles fans like myself but it got pretty rough out there especially when a sprinkler leaked in the middle of the night and our stuff got drenched. Bummer. All in all, it was a great experience and I was very impressed with the amazing job that Amoeba did at keeping it safe and organized for everybody in line. p.p.s. Did he sit on a stool? How many guitars? Mandolin? other details, pics, etc... He had his full band with him. Check out the video here http://www.youtube.com/paulmccartney

ImWalken
Thanks for that Accesshollywood link, I've been looking for more video footage. I'm hoping that a bootleg rip of the entire show surfaces sometime soon because there were about 10 cameras set up recording the show. I'm surprised by all the kind words on here. Most of my friends (especially my girl) that didn't get to go are so jealous that they don't even want to hear me talk about it. And obviously it was probably the most exciting moment of my life so far so I can't shutup about it. I mean for heaven's sake, my girlfriend doesn't even know the setlist yet because she tells me to shutup about it. I guess I'll just give her some time to simmer down. Wendy
Most of my friends (especially my girl) that didn't get to go are so jealous that they don't even want to hear me talk about it. I hate it when that happens, because your friends should be excited for you and want to hear all about it. But don't be too surprised that your fellow VC'ers are all over this one -- I have to confess that I read it twice!
tjr
What an experience - to be able to see and hear McCartney in such an intimate setting! Soak it all in - you have had a one in a lifetime experience... congrats doesn't cover it.
