jenbobblehead
So, cahtzee jr is off to prep school this year and needs a new way to carry books. I'm going to buy her a back to school bag, but the question is this: knapsacks? or messenger bag? I know that in general, messenger bags are far hipper than knapsacks, and i'm going to assume that this is the case at prep school. So i'm thinking a cool timbuk2 messenger bag. Thoughts? myboyblue
I think this one would raise the bar for all Cahtzee's peers.
Reni
I am a big fan of the timbuk2 bags......if I get the assistantship I am after, I may treat myself to a laptop/messenger bag
bobbob1313
I carried a single folder/notebook.
jenbobblehead
I carried a single folder/notebook.ok, so cahtzee jr is going to be a freshman at one of the most competitive prep schools in the country and she'll be a day student so she won't have a room to go back to between classes. She has a locker (somewhere) but she'll probably carry a lot of her books with her. I know my mother will buy her one of those goofy rolling back packs but she's counting on her auntie j to get her a stylin' sweet bag, i just am not sure a messenger bag will hold all the things she needs to carry. So, now that you know all that--back pack or messenger bag, or a perhaps one of those one strap across the chest back packs (i know i love mine, but i also have a messenger bag and about 15 other kinds of bags)
aricandover
these offer great support, and they're very comfortable. any single shoulder bag could wreak havoc on someone's spine, especially if they're carrying a lot of heavy books. something like this might not be as hip, but it beats feeling like you've been stricken with scoliosis. yermom
Backpack Facts (from a poll of girls 11 to 18) What about those backpacks? New ones will go home with 66 percent of the girls. Even more use backpacks (72%) or messenger bags (7%) - so, we conclude, only 13 percent will be seen with last year's bag. Jansport is the hands-down favorite brand, according to 29 percent of the respondents.Other brands named were Eastpak and LL Bean (tied for second with 5 percent each), and Tommy Hilfiger, Gap and Nike (tied for third place with 2 percent each). Old Navy and Roxy (1% each) and Eddie Bauer (less than 1%) also made the list, but barely. The coolest bags are blue, according to the largest group of respondents (28%), but black's cool, too, say 19 percent. Green's the pick of 14 percent, followed by yellow (8%), purple (7%), orange (4%) and red (4%). Favorite backpack feature? Twelve percent of the girls praised pockets.Even more than locker interiors, backpacks are for decorating. Eighty percent of respondents consider their bags works in progress when they buy them. Girls who decorate backpacks draw or write on them (30%) (with markers, paint or white-out), hang keychains on the zippers (22%) or attach patches (19%), buttons, pins (11%), stickers (3%) or glitter (1%).Thanks to:http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FV...5_4/ai_55365989 These Jansport bags are pretty cool and they have 35 colors/patterns to choose from! I think $22 is so reasonable that you could even get two to match different outfits? And this Tagger design your own messenger bag is hip enough, but a little pricey. anodyne
i've used an eastpak for almost a decade without issues. everything still works and nothing is broken. that said, it's not stylish!
W(TF)
Yeah I used to carry a canvas 'World Famous' kind of bag, got 'em at the army surplus store back in the day. Hipsters all had them, so hey. I had a couple and never managed to wear them out. Didn't study much either tho.
jenbobblehead
i like those ogio ones. I might look into those. I think that she needs something she can carry on her back, just not on her shoulder, but it is has to be cool enough for her to actually use. I have sent out some feelers at the actual school (cahtztee sr works there) to see what the cool kids are using to drag their stuff around... every year for her birthday i get her the coolest sneakers, or outfit, and this year i want to get her the best bag EVA! Mr. Heartbreak
In my day, the boys carried their books under one arm, and the girls carried theirs in front of them ... now they have designer backpacks from L.L. Bean and Tommy Hilfiger.
