street spirit
I don't have the exact setlist, because I'm clearly a bad VC'er, but I will say that this show was a long time coming (almost 4 years!) for Vancouver. Similar setlist to Calgary a couple of nights ago, minus Company, Hummingbird, Outtamind, and Wheel, but plus Pot Kettle Black, Red Eyed and Blue>I Got You, Monday, and TOO FAR APART! First time I've seen them touring the new record, and it really seemed like they were turning up the "rock." And if Nels was any worse for wear, he certainly wasn't showing it. TCP
Yeah!!! Ahh, I can't begin to explain how happy I am right now (first time ever seeing Wilco). I was right up at the front, between Jeff and John. I saw them soundcheck (what was this about a contest?! oh well, I could see if from the gate) Too Far Apart and I didn't even recognize it at first. They also soundchecked "When The Roses Bloom Again", "Hesitating Beauty" and "Bob Dylan's Beard" along with some SBS tunes. I'm brain dead, I'll write more tomorrow. TOO FAR APART! I think a majority of the board has been calling for that pretty regulary for about a year now... they like us, they really like us!!! Good to see the BT encore make a return... giving Hummingbird the night off = amazing... a wonder if they now will do the same by not playing Shot, Break, Jesus, Handshake, or ITMWLY maybe one night during the tour... or even Walken... that track has been played at almost every show over the past 2+ years now. Now if they will just put Hotel Arizona in there with in Too Far Apart...

Preferred B
Wow, I hope that little Canadian boy who was in Vermont was at this show to see "his" request of Red Eyed & Blue > I Got You played! "Too Far Apart" - wow. Jeff played that solo in Madison ... whenever that show was ... but how awesome to see the full band do it. Sounds like a great show, and I look forward to more reports. I can't wait for L.A.
blindgonzo
yay! what an AMAZING show!!! I almost died when i heard the drum intro to Too Far Apart!!! and when they busted out red-eyed and blue, i knew i would die a happy lady! i got a couple of good photos, which i'll post when i get home. it was nice to be dancing beside dreamin' and Stacey, glad to have met you (briefly!). i have to go now and catch the bus to Seattle. this will be my last wilco show this time around, and i can't wait!!! :dance
Dreamin'
Odds and ends: Nels is recovering nicely. Very nicely! Jeff was uncharacteristically silent about the crappy clapping we did during Spiders. (Sorry!) Maybe the Vancouver audience was too stoned? If Jeff really did hike the Grouse Grind, I am impressed! That's like climbing up the CN Tower one and a half times. Every few years or so, a tourist in flip flops wanders off in the North Shore mountains and falls off a cliff or gets eaten by a cougar or something. A guy even died on the Grind one snowy winter and they had to close it. It's serious wilderness back there!
jhh4321
what an awesome setlist, i would lose it if i saw red eyed-> i got you...maybe wilco will start mixing it up a little bit more this tour?
TCP
Richard Swift was impressive as well. I liked his encore jokes.Ohh Via Chicago was amazing.

Edie
According to Wilcobase, Too Far Apart was last played by the full band in July 2000. Too far apart indeed That set list looks fab. Glad to see you all had a great time -- and dreamin', that you got a night out

barnyard pimp
the saskatoon berry bit was a callback to edmonton, if i recall correctly... and yes, this was a phenomenal show! i was skeptical about the outdoor environment, but the place is SMALL and the sound was GREAT. nels was on fire, dancing around, disappearing off into mike's corner sometimes... his hot licks on the 'being there' encore was too much for even jeff to take, he forgot the lyrics to the last verse of monday due to sheer awe... i was pleasantly surprised they gave 'hummingbird' a rest for one night, 'always in love' to close the first set was super high energy fun, and then that first encore just stepped it up even more. i agree about giving some other tunes a rest, there were more tunes from YHF than SBS tonight! but 'kamera'/'pkb' are sooo much fun to finally hear. NO "SHAKE IT OFF" in the first three shows ..or WHAT LIGHT! the SBS material is so much fun, i wish they featured it more heavily. and yes, jeff said they hadn't played TFA since '95. and yes, our clapping sucked hard compared to alberta. (and yes, i blame the weed -- also, we sang along more, but there was far less wilcowear in the crowd than alberta -- seemed like everyone had a wilco shirt in alberta, perhaps from last year's tour which somehow missed vancouver) FUN FUCKING SHOW. wish i was going to seattle. glad to see they might be getting more adventurous w/ the sets, but mostly glad to see nels ON FIRE and everybody, really, ON FIRE... Chris_H_2
He actually knew what a Saskatoon berry was !!! here is a link to a review in the Vancouver SunVancouver Sun review Gallery of photos is the article's top right corner. Enjoy "Guitarist Nels Cline - whose recent bout of chicken pox was the cause for two cancelled shows earlier this month - impressed the crowd immediately with a skilled solo on the opening number. Throughout the rest of the show, his lanky, awkward frame would sporadically break into an enthusiastic jig, rock in time with his guitar, or simply move with such obvious passion for the music that he proved to be the most magnetic performer on stage. Watching him and listening to him made me pity those who saw Wilco before Cline joined the band in 2004." Somewhat strong words one might say . . .
barnyard pimp
"Pity" is probably ridiculous, but I'd definitely take this line-up of the band over any other, without hesitation, especially in a live context. Oh, here's a distorted blurry snippet of 'Too Far Apart'. http://www.sendspace.com/file/wwwd2t

TCP
Anyone remember the order of the soundcheck songs?I remember, in no order:Either WayHesitating BeautyBob Dylan's BeardWhen The Roses Bloom AgainToo Far Apartand one or two other other SBS numbers. Grr, the Vancouver Sun cut me out of this picture.. I was just beside the girl with the hanker chief!
