jimmyjimmy
He seems to have that effect on people. I was spinning TMPoE just this past weekend while a friend was hanging out out the house. At some point she asked who the artist was. I was a bit taken aback as she's generally pretty hip to what's currently out there and has excellent taste in music. She parked herself in front of the turntable for an entire spin, swooning over the music. Andrew is playing about 60 miles away this coming Sunday. I didn't mention it at the time, as I was un-certain tickets were still available; (Tickets were still available. Whoa!). Gave her a call late last night asking if she wanted to tag along. My ears are still ringing from the squeals.
KevinG
This almost makes me want to go to Milwaukee and see this show.
Three dollars and 63 cents
Wow, what a pairing. Somebody who's going to one of these shows have an extra good time for me!
quarter23cd
Nice. And I just got the notice that my tix for Columbus have shipped.
Preferred B
Andrew "opened" for Wilco at Summerfest two years ago. Well, he played at the same stage directly before them, anyway. I saw him last week and it was a very good show, but I'm looking forward to seeing him solo again. Though it looks like in Minneapolis he will be with a band, which makes sense because Jeremy Ylvisaker and Martin Dosh are both from Minneapolis.

cryptique
so what does that mean for detroit?Yeah, does anyone know? I'm gonna be pissed if the rest of the country gets Dr. Dog or Andrew Bird and we get stuck with some crap.
Preferred B
that was last year, yo. Dang, you're right. I guess since summer is now over this year it feels like two years ago?
countryfeedback
Damn. Wilco is really getting some big name openers. It was not always like this. I saw Andrew Bird at sxsw last year and he was incredible. A friend of mine (more up to date with todays music than myself) said Andrew's set at ACL this year blew away Wilco, The Decemberists, and nearly every one else you can think of. You never want to schedule an opener that could take away from the main act. Tells you how confident our little Tweedy has become. Not that any band out there could blow Wilco out of the water, but Iam biased so you never know.
M. (hristine
Dr. Dog was a kick ass opener as well. I liked them better than most openers I've seen. I would see them as headliners. I don't think the Wilcos are skeert.
Gobias Industries
FUCKING SWEET ANDREW BIRD IS OPENING WHEN I WILL BE SEEING THEM!!!! God, I think I just wet my pants.
Scalzunfield
I really, really liked Dr Dog and was actually having a moment of contemplation of seeing them in Chicago on 10/9 instead of Wilco. But I already have the Wilco tix and with Bird opening, this becomes one of the most anticipated shows on the year for me. Awesome.
Wendy
Yeah, does anyone know? I'm gonna be pissed if the rest of the country gets Dr. Dog or Andrew Bird and we get stuck with some crap.calm down!
aricandover
Yeah, does anyone know? I'm gonna be pissed if the rest of the country gets Dr. Dog or Andrew Bird and we get stuck with some crap. you'll end up with Cowboy Mouth
Clouds of Fluff
Yeah, does anyone know? I'm gonna be pissed if the rest of the country gets Dr. Dog or Andrew Bird and we get stuck with some crap. Or 16 Frames. (did they open for CH at Ann Arbor?) I also saw Mr. Bird last week for the first time...am very excited to see him again and have hubby see what I'm going on about (his music people!). Should be a good pairing... Just got an e-mail, KC tix are in the mail too!
Edie
you'll end up with Cowboy Mouth They played before Wilco at the 2005 Jazz Fest. They threw red spoons at the audience during a certain song -- so it was like being at a Rocky Horror show.

Preferred B
Or 16 Frames. (did they open for CH at Ann Arbor?) Ha! I blogged about the CH show I saw at the Pabst and was pretty mean about 16 Frames. A few weeks later, the drummer replied to my post.
cryptique
I thought 16 Frames was a decent (if unexciting) opener for Crowded House ... but for Wilco ... no.
jakobnicholas
A friend of mine (more up to date with todays music than myself) said Andrew's set at ACL this year blew away Wilco, The Decemberists, and nearly every one else you can think of. You never want to schedule an opener that could take away from the main act. All this is subjective, so, to your friend it's probably true. I think Bird's music is interesting and nice when listening on a cd. And he might be fantastic to see in a small indoor venue. But, to me, his voice and the bells and strings and artsy (almost creepy) whistles he employs in his songs are a bit much. I'm not worried about Bird taking anything away from Wilco. deepseacatfish
Andrew Bird came through Grinnell last year, it was pretty great. I was still more excited about Low and Deerhoof (the previous Wilco openers I've seen) but this is great too. I'm totally excited for this next month!
Clouds of Fluff
Ha! I blogged about the CH show I saw at the Pabst and was pretty mean about 16 Frames. A few weeks later, the drummer replied to my post. Brianne, I just read your blog. (Lots of good stuff btw!) "Trying to channel Bono" were the exact words that came up in my conversation with fellow concert goers about them. I guess to be fair, I suspect if I heard their music on the radio (without the visual) I might think "oh, this is nice". ...and I did enjoy watching the bassist and drummer now that I think of it (we were in the front row trying to avoid eye contact with the lead singer! LOL). You were very kind in your response. It's a tough gig being an opener, isn't it?
LouieB
it's new leg of the tour. wilco tends to switch opening acts from one leg to the next.and Dr. Dog was dog tired.... LouieB
