froggie
since the recent AM surge in the setlists i pulled the album out again last night and this tune struck me... what do you all think of it?the guitar licks are beautiful only played live once in 1995 as well
kamera
I could not agree with you more. A beautiful song...great vibe and tempo...my favorite A.M. song.
W(TF)
I love this song. Along with Should've Been In Love, two of Wilco's best slow tempo songs ever... A.M. as a whole seems to be underrated.
Tweedling
*my 2 cents* I LOVE DASH 7! I think Nels would kill the slide/pedal steel part.

mountain bed
since the recent AM surge in the setlists i pulled the album out again last night and this tune struck me... what do you all think of it?the guitar licks are beautiful only played live once in 1995 as wellI'm a fan of this one. When Jeff sings "I don't think you even understaaaaand" it gets me every time for some reason.
rileykill
"Pot Kettle Black" isn't generally underrated but it has been underrated by me - popped up on a random playlist yesterday and I couldn't believe it had been so long since I heard it.
quarter23cd
I've always been a fan of how after the line "I've run out of metaphors" there is a big gap where the lyrics would otherwise be. Its gimmicky, but it works.
TCP
Yeah, that whole verse is pretty clever.

Gobias Industries
I think it also happened on 2006.02.26 Mandel Hall, U.Chicago. The one that was webcasted. edit: Dash 7, not the song that the topic concerns.
Ghost Of Bob Cumming
I've always been a fan of how after the line "I've run out of metaphors" there is a big gap where the lyrics would otherwise be. Its gimmicky, but it works. Is that the bit where the banjo burbles away like a steadily trickling stream (or something), and ends with Coomer crashing around the cymbals before they go back into the chorus? A mate of mine has been including I Thought I Held You on various compilations for years solely on the basis of this part.
