lizish
i'll go so far to say that i think five roses is going to come in at the top spot. canada does seem to be a hot bed of good indie rock and strip clubs. and garage rock loving milfs. I've tried with Miracle Fortress and I guess it's just not my thing. Trouble is I don't see the novelty in it either - the music seems very generic and no different than 100 other pandabeargrizzlybearbesnardlakes Brian Wilson wannabees with keyboards and more than one vocalist. Worse, I think the band is a symptom of the worst in insular, Canadian Blog-circle-jerking. I mean look at this list http://www.iheartmusic.net/serendipity/ind...07-edition.html Some of it I love (acorn, julie dorion, Basia Bulat etc) and have to thank those same insular Blogs for the pimping, but geez, it's as if the very rich music scenes in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria and Winnipeg didn't exist. Where's Ladyhawk, Black Mountain, Pride Tiger, Christine Fellows, Romi Mayes, Clair Jenkins, Ox, RPC, Cuff the Duke, the Constantines, Two Minute Miracles... To put on frankly 'Not much there bands' like Miracle Fortress and Ohbijou is strange and reaks of a Toronto centred way of the world.

I'm a big fan of the Cons, Ladyhawk, Black Mountain, the Pink mountaintops and Rock Plaza Central, but I live in Texas, so I'm probably not much help to you. I do think that the Broken Social Scene related stuff gets way too much hype, although I agree that Feist is pretty awesome. In fact I like her a whole lot more than Broken Social Scene. Be glad for the lack of guyliner on your hot Canadian bands list, though. It could be much, much worse.
EL the Famous
I've tried with Miracle Fortress and I guess it's just not my thing. Trouble is I don't see the novelty in it either - the music seems very generic and no different than 100 other pandabeargrizzlybearbesnardlakes Brian Wilson wannabees with keyboards and more than one vocalist. i don't know about novelty, i just think it's really, really well-done and sounds great. you know i'm a sucker for well-crafted pop, T. plus, i don't listen to near as much music (canadian or otherwise) as you do...to busy opressing the poor and watching monster movies. not that it matters, but i'm changing my 'Best of 2007' list to 'Favorites of 2007' list on my blog...who the fuck am I to tell somebody what the best releases out of umpteen thousand were? Kalle
I enjoyed the Miracle Fortress disc. I am also glad that lizish listens to sweet Canadian bands that basically only us listen to on the page. I saw that you were listening to The Wooden Stars and they are coming to our record store here in like three weeks!

Kalle - they are certainly a new to me band, and while I decry the Blogs, I gotta hand it to them for pointing out good stuff. Wooden Stars are here in Dec at the tiny pub. I've been listening to only a small number of Mp3s , but I think I'll go and pick up a disc. They certainly sound good. Kev. sorry, not teeing off on you for liking miracle fortress so much as frustration that they seem to be an 'it' band.

cryptique
I'm going to have to add Springsteen's latest to my list. I don't love the production (though I don't mind it as much as some people) ... but this is a really solid set of tunes. Ol' Bruce has still got it. He performed nine songs off of this album Monday evening, and the new stuff blended quite well with the old stuff.
Welsh Rich
Nice to see some love for that Miracle Fortress album, I really like it and, when compared to Person Pitch etc I thought it had a bit more heart to it than similar "sounding" records.
bobfrombob
Graham Parker - Don't Tell ColumbusI forgot this one. Top 10 for sure.

MadMonkey
No order but just the one's I find myself listening to the most this year: Wilco "Sky Blue Sky"Andrew Bird "Armchair Apocrypha"Iron and Wine "The Shepherd's Dog"Robert Plant and Allyson Krauss "Rising Sand" Spoon "Gagagagaga....." Levon Helm "Dirt Farmer"Electrelane "No Shouts No Calls"Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings "100 Days and 100 Nights" One caveat I haven't heard the Radiohead yet b/c I moved to a very rural area where no high speed is available. I've been very pleased with the amount of good music released this year. Peace
a.miller
After a few times through Of Montreal's latest, I'm growing less-impressed. It could be that I finally got and got Spoon's latest, which really is good.

DAngerer09
I forgot to add Southeast Engine's "A Wheel Within a Wheel" to my list. They are from my college town, Athens, OH, and they tend to draw a lot of Wilco comparisons.
froggie
john fogerty deserves another mention.... a real return to form
TheMaker
Definitely a runner-up for me! He sounds fuckin' HUNGRY on some of those tracks. I wasn't expecting him to rock me through my roof, but there it is. His voice is in astonishing shape, too.

I think the music just thrives with all the layers (particularly with the varied percussion to drive the texture). The older stuff is good too...but I like this a lot more.
