because bands only get like 4-4.5 minutes on SNL & Late Night TV...

That's nearly always true, although I did see Zappa Plays Zappa do Willie the Pimp on Conan for a good 8 minutes awhile back.

awesome.

yeah there's been a few exceptions... Pearl Jam played 2 songs back to back (for a total of 3) in '94 just after Cobain died

Why all the hate for "Hate it Here"?

Not my favorite, but far better than "What Light" imo. I certainly wouldn't mind if they played that one.

I'm still holding out hope for an SBS song in the first slot and an older tune in the second (something energetic). And if the SBS song could be "Impossible Germany" -- full-length -- that would definitely make them some new fans.

With the horn section reportedly in tow, however, I'd expect "Hate It Here" and/or "Walken" will be on the agenda.

it's the lyrics for me mostly... sure they are funny/cute, but to the average person i can see them finding the lyrics pretty dumb (and not in a top 40 pop single sorta way). It's just not exactly a song i'd want to use to introduce new people to the band personally...

and i'm not too big on how Jeff sings "i haaaaaaaaaaaaaaateitheeeeere" either :monkey

i don't hate it, but it's certainly towards the bottom on SBS for me...

i could ask the same question... why all the hate for "What Light"? honestly anyone who loves Dylan should love that song IMO, no it's not the best song on SBS, but still. ;)

both of these are my least favorite songs on SBS.

I saw Jeff after the show Friday night. He told me and the group I had with me about SNL, and was very pumped about it. He said they'd play Hate It Here and another SBS song. Talking to him, it sounded liek You are My Face was the probable second song.

I'd be SO much happier with You Are My Face, as opposed to Walken. Walken has a great finish, but I've always found the body of the song to be clunky and awkward.

Hate if Here will sound great....especially if the supposed extra musicians tagging along.

(I still hope for a surprise and hearing Side With the Seeds.....the guitar work on the song is so awesome.)

for me:

Awesome:

Impossible Germany

You Are My Face

Side With The Seeds

Great:

Either Way

Good:

Shake It Off

What Light

On and On and On

Sky Blue Sky

Ok:

Please Be Patient With Me

Walken

Eh:

Hate It Here

Leave Me (Like You Found Me)

Strrrrrrrrrrrrrrrretch.

^most anyone? ;)

like i said, i don't think it's amazing, but i don't think it's anywhere near the bottom either. it was an obvious first single choice for me (just the ex-music director in me talking :stunned )

re: Walken... totally agree... clumsy/clunky is a great way to describe it's verses and chorus up until the ending.

You Are My Face & Side With The Seeds would be tits :pirate

Impossible Germany & Thanks I Get (w/ horns) would be tits 'n ice cream :chicken

I'll use your own words to answer that question from my perspective. ;)

is that it? do you not like Dylan?

if so, that makes all the sense in the world now... :pirate

I love Dylan. I just don't see any real Dylan comparison in "What Light."

OK, yeah, maybe Jeff's vocal delivery is vaguely reminiscent during the verses ... but that doesn't make it a Dylanesque song.

agree to disagree then i guess ;)

tons of reviews of the album/song have mentioned it as well, so i know i'm not the only one who is crazy :thumbup

I hope they play "Hate It Here" and dedicate it to the Charleston ticketholders.

:rotfl
