What were the best shows on the SBS Tour?

Recommended Posts

Ok, the tour's not over, but it must be 80% done by now (?!).

Those who saw multiple shows and/or downloaded a bunch, what were the best shows? I remember a lot of buzz about Edmonton, and a couple of the west coast shows. My memory ain't what it used to be. Res nite 3 is probably my current fave, but I've only heard a few full shows from the tour. (and attended Aronoff)

The Philadelphia show a few weeks ago was amazing. It wasn't the best set list, but the performance was near perfect. I'm listening to the recording of it now, and I keep catching myself thinking, "Wait, I was I was at this show?" I left that night saying it was the best show I'd ever been to, but usually when I hear recordings a few weeks later, they're never as good as I remember, but this one really is. I was also at the Northampton show last summer, but that one just didn't have the same energy these last few weeks of shows have had. They seem to have hit their peak on this leg.

Seeing seven shows on the SBS Tour so far I'd rate them this way.

1- Dublin (11-15)

2- New Orleans (Voodoo Fest)

3- Merriweather

4- Tower Philly

5- Northampton Pines

6- Dallas

7- Pittsburgh

None were weak at all so rating them is tough and based on the overall experience.

As far as trying to discern a great SBS show via recording, I'm really partial to the Vermont and Louisville shows.

Columbia, MO last September. Street festival on their old stomping grounds. Great set list, incredibly high energy, and just a hell of a lot of fun.

I personally went to Indy early in the tour and Columbus,Ohio in the middle of the tour. I can say for me it was no comparison. Columbus was by far the best. Everything from the setlist(which was one of the best of the tour) to the debut of the Nudie suit, Columbus was a killer. The sound in the Wexner was also good.

I think a previous poster nailed it--the best SBS shows were the ones I attended. :pirate And those, of course, are outside of the Residency.

territorial pissings

every show I went to was the best show.

that seems to be the sentiment. i'd been looking at set lists and having been at iowa city and des moines, i feel like des moines was really at the top of the list, regardless of what jeff said about his voice because

1) his voice really was not bad

2) i liked what the guys have been doing switching amps and a few arrangement tweaks since last fall

3) the sheer number of songs played and the bands enthusiasm to keep playing

4) the acoustics in the val

5) the set list included so many rarities

so basically it seems i caught myself doing what everyone else here has been doing.

also, i really love the way territorial pissings sounds

let the terrible jokes ensue...

i think all of the residency shows were special just because of what they were doing. but outside of that these shows don't really vary much from night to night so it really does come down to what show you saw. the detroit show was pretty awesome because it was at the legendary fox theater and andrew bird played on some songs, and because i was there. so yeah, this exercise is probably pretty pointless.

The Louisville show was pretty good, but maybe that's just because I had a really, really good seat. :thumbup

That, and I got to see John sing It's Just That Simple. Loved that part.

Night 5 sounds like the best of the residency to me.

Louisville was a great show, even though our seats were not great. Nashville, as others can attest, was transcendental. However, I fully admit that I have no basis of comparison since these are the only times I've seen Wilco.

i'll be biased and say Sydney, 21 april 2007

perfect atmosphere which isnt captured on the webcast. i wish someone taped it from the audience

i would agree since that was the SBS show i saw! and i thought there was an audience recording that was floating around. i remember having the show on my old cpu that i got off of bt.etree. i think there was a taper at the brise show last year as well. you coming back up for next tuesday?
