tinnitus photography
I've never heard any of that. buy this:http://www.amazon.com/Anthology-Clean/dp/B00007L7E1 is this board cool w/ doing zipped mp3 uploads? if so, i'll do a ~8 song sampler that will give you a good dose of what i'm talking about re: 80s New Zealand music. Agreed. I would also include Robyn Hitchcock - two musicians that once you get past their quirky schtick are really quite dull. two serious questions: 1 - what have you heard from Hitchcock?2 - do you like Barrett and Dylan? Calexico
All this thread goes to prove is that musical taste is subjective and thank fuck for that or else we'd all be listening to Lionel Richie and Mariah Carey.
people are leaving
He used to do one of the best covers of Big Star's Thirteen I've ever heard. I must admit to a soft spot for him largely due to my love for "Good Will Hunting" and the contribution his music made to that great film. I'm a bit partial to Either/Or

Guest Speed Racer
The only thing worse than The Decemberists and Arcade Fire is Modest Mouse. Oooh, I'll ride that train. We need to find room for Conor Oberst on that list, though. MM, the Decembrists, Conor and Arcade Fire all suffer from - among other transgressions - SAV: Severely Affected Vocals syndrome. Guest Runaway Jim
I don't know, I like The Moon and Antarctica, so I'll go ahead and say that Modest Mouse doesn't quite deserve that. Sleater-Kinney is alright in my book. I love that Words and Guitar song.

But I also think that Piper is the best album of the psych era. fair enough. you've definitely heard enough of Hitchcock to form an opinion. i would recommend listening to _I Often Dream Of Trains_, a spare and sparse outing, mainly him on acoustic guitar, w/ a little bit of piano here and there (and soprano sax on the gorgeous "Flavour of Night") Robyn's put out a 2cd live set consisting of just Dylan songs. it's quite good. Guest Speed Racer
On a related note, it drives me nuts when people list their favorite musicians and can't spell the artist/band names correctly.
Sweet Papa Crimbo
Tom Petty's name should come up more in discussions of the greatest songwriters. Not blasphemy. Not even a controversial opinion.

mpolak21
Tom Petty's name should come up more in discussions of the greatest songwriters. His mid-to-late nineties albums (the soundtrack from She's The One, Echo, and Wildflowers) were huge for me when I was getting to music as an early teen. I was just listening to Room at The Top from Echo a few mornings ago, still a killer song. --Mike
Guest Runaway Jim
Wildflowers is the album for me. I think it's one of the greatest ever. I like his whole catalog, but man, that album is unreal. And I disagree with the statement below. I've never, not once, heard Petty mentioned within a discussion with people talking about the greatest songwriters ever. Never. You hear Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards, DYLAN, Young, Springsteen, and some others. But never Petty. My point was just that I think he belongs right up there with them. Well, I think Dylan is clearly the greatest, but he belongs right up there with all the others mentioned. It might not be blasphemous, but whatever. Not blasphemy. Not even a controversial opinion.
