lamradio
The Push Stars - Keg On My Coffin. Most of you probably haven't heard it, but if you have a moment to spare, read the lyrics: Put the keg on my coffinAnd think of me every so oftenHave a losers day paradefor all my friendsDrink up life like a river'til the pizza man deliversAnd smile and know I loved you 'til the end "Here's what you do when my time comes to pass,"Charlie told me through the reflection in his glass."Don't waste time praying"'cause I'm never coming back"Just throw a party in my name." Put the keg on my coffinAnd think of me every so oftenHave a losers day paradefor all my friendsDrink up life like a river'til the pizza man deliversAnd smile and know I loved you 'til the end Here's what to writeon the stone over my grave"His friends were earned,"and not a penny saved"Don't waste time crying'cause you too are on your wayTo meet me at the pawn shop in the sky Put the keg on my coffinAnd think of me every so oftenHave a losers day paradefor all my friendsDrink up life like a rive'til the pizza man deliversAnd smile and know I loved you 'til the end
Scalzunfield
morbid? Quite morbid, but after this awful weekend... I had to drive 10 hours to my grandfather's funeral in Arkansas this past weekend. Now, he was quite religious and I have some serious atheist leanings. The ceremony was nice and all, but so long and drawn out (especially the rosary...you'd think they would be able to shorten that juuuust a little). I realized that I want none of that junk at my funeral, but I never got around to which songs I wanted played. I just know I want it to be a celebration of life. The Catholic burial rite is so morbid, sad, and drawn out when, if you believe what they believe, you should be happy. This person who died should, in all likelihood, be going to heaven where their soul will exist in eternal peace and glory. Isn't that a good thing rather than bad? In any case, songs off the top of my head that I want played:On & On & On (Wilco)In The Aeroplane Over The Sea (Neutral Milk Hotel)There's probably something by the Eels I'd include but I don't know what it is. Twisted Acres
Before they fire up the cremation kiln, the last soundwaves I want skipping over my skin are those of "Do-Do Do Bah-Ah" by Bert Keyes, with "Move on Up" by Curtis Mayfield and "Soulful Strut" by Young-Holt Unlimited just before that. jimmyjimmy
It's not morbid at all really. I dunno, I'd like a song sung by Richard Manuel. "Across the Great Divide" maybe.

Guest Moses
i guess Acuff-Rose since it's my favorite song ever. although it doesn't really feel very funerally. maybe Here Comes the Sun. or just a blazing version of The Divided Sky.
Guest Cousin Tupelo
"Many Rivers to Cross" by Jimmy Cliff, "Angel" by Aretha Franklin, and I've always had this fantasy that some beautiful, tearful woman would insist on "You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me" by Gladys Knight. But who would that woman be?
TheMaker
Lone Pilgrim, from Dylan's World Gone Wrong. 1. I came to the place where the lone pilgrim lay,And pensively stood by his tomb,When in a low whisper I heard something say:How sweetly I sleep here alone. 2. The tempest may howl and the loud thunder roarAnd gathering storms may arise,But calm is my feeling, at rest is my soul,The tears are all wiped from my eyes. 3. The call of my master compelled me from home,No kindred or relative nigh.I met the contagion and sank to the tomb,My soul flew to mansions on high. 4. Go tell my companion and children most dearTo weep not for me now I'm gone. The same hand that led me through seas most severeHas kindly assisted me home. And of course, Remember the Mountain Bed. yermom
There's probably something by the Eels I'd include but I don't know what it is."Things the Grandchildren Should Know" might be good. FREEBIRD!They played it at my brother's funeral. It was certainly a sad occasion but the absolute cheesiness of that selection made me smile through the tears. For me, "The Diamond Sea" and "Mountain Bed" are definitely on the list.
