Kalle
how was the national/modest mouse? I saw the show on Sunday in Toronto. The National were spectacular, totally my favorite "young band" out there. Modest Mouse was horrendous, it's a huge mess on stage and in the mix. They could very easily just be a three piece and Issac Brock can stop his barking. R.E.M. were fantastic and exceeded my expectations, Michael Stipe is an amazing front man and Johnny Marr came out and played a song with them which was pretty good as well. I'd definitely like to add "Find the River" in the mix. I say "Man on the Moon, Night Swimming" and "Find the River" is the most cohesive end to an album since side 2 of Abbey Road. Analogman
I have never heard of such a thing - except maybe a hymn or two.
bigshoulders
how was the national/modest mouse?Loved The National's set, due in large part because I'm more familiar with their last 2 albums than with Modest Mouse's catalog, but I enjoyed MM as well. I gotta say though, I felt that the National could have gone as the single opening act, and that would have suited me fine. But it was awesome to get to see Johnny Marr play, and later join R.E.M. on stage for "Fall on Me".  I'm still processing the show, and haven't really written much on it, but maybe I'll post a link back in After the Show once I do. Kevin PS: just a few more songs to play at my funeral:  Tom Waits' "Take it With Me" followed by "Come On Up to the House" off Mule VariationsSoulsavers "Revival"

Degenerex
Zappa, Watermelon in Easter Hay 100% agree. Since I'm about to quit my job and lose my health care, I guess its not too morbid at the time.

Wilco Worshipper
hummingbird is pretty fitting.Agreed    I have MANY a friend who say that they want their funerals to be a Celebration of Life rather than some morbid thing.  I guess in the end it all depends on WHO plans it, how old you are when you go and how it happened...ya know?!? John Smith
I've been to three funerals in the past month where a mother has buried a child. One was 63, the other 52 and the third was 40. All very sad. These got me thinking a little bit about my mortality and the funerals got me thinking about what I would want when I die and It really does not matter to me what service is done, what music is played etc... I think it would matter more to the living than the deceased, and what will help them get through this. So I am leaving it all up to my wife and kids. That being said I do like amazing grace sung acapella and will the circle remain unbroken.
