This is a perfect collection to get you better acquainted with her catalog. This one spans her career, which I think is the first collection to do so. Highly recommended.

I always associate that song with Billie Holiday. I don't think I've heard Nina's version.

Nina has covered a lot of great tunes and I've never heard a poor version of one of her covers. She never fails to put a unique and heartfelt personal touch on a tune, imo. She nails Dylan particularly well, too.

ed. not that you are unaware of this, just musing out loud....

Absolutely! I prefer her cover versions to the originals a lot of the time. She sure has covered some great ones: Dylan, Cohen, Young, Newman...

this is the best album josh rouse never made ;)

You have compelled me to put this on my eMusic "save for later" list. I shall grab it when my downloads refresh in about 5 days.

i didn't notice the josh rouse bit at first. but after three listens, it sounds like the album i've also wanted rouse to make. i might have to go back through matthew ryan's catalog now.

Probably my least-favorite of his Luaka Bop "comeback" records. But it's been a while since I've heard it and should probably go back and give it another spin sometime.

Nonetheless.... :worship to Tom Z
