turtlegirl37
Me & Fatheadfred have been driving all over MO & into KS checking out who has what sign(s) up. Gas is down to $2.99 now, so what the hell. Kansas...all McCain. Not in these parts. I see lots of Obama signs and stickers around here. (I live about an hour southwest of the KC metro area.) Generally, though, people are more interested in state and local level politics, from the Boyda/Jenkins race all the way down to the county commission. Honestly, I think McCain will take Kansas, but it won't be a blow-out. We've had a lot of local boys killed in Bush's war, the gas prices are hard on the farmers and commuters, and small businesses are suffering. The median income in my county is only about $40K, and times are tight. People are not as conservative here as one might think. I know that my redneck/Catholic dad and my yuppie/Catholic sister and brother-in-law intend to vote Obama. Now, if my evangelical mom and stepdad swing to Obama, I may just pass out. Guest Speed Racer
In my neighborhood/greater urban area I see either full blocks of Obama signs/full blocks of McCain signs (and other equally partisan signage), or deuling signs: McCain next door to Obama, etc. on a block otherwise void of signs. Edie
Here we go.... from Politico. McCain is bringing this upon himself. Frankly, I think it can be easily argued that McCain and the rest of the Keating 5 did far greater damage to the US than Ayers ever did. $1.2T plus a lot of people's retirements.... very very bad. Yes it's old news; yes McCain wasn't the nexus, but his culpability is not denied. Keating, coming Mike Allen: Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on Monday will launch a multimedia campaign to draw attention to the involvement of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in the
mountain bed
About damn time imo, Edie. Barack has shown a great deal of restraint in not bringing this up - it seems almost too easy, but why not do it? I was on the phone with a good friend tonight and we were both wondering why this hasn't been used. With the exception of Olbermann you hardly even hear about this in the (television) media. Given the current financial situation this can only be another nail in McCain's coffin.
Edie
I am personally sorry that the race has deteriorated to this, but as I said, I feel McCain has initiated it. The situation is regrettable, but I swear, there will be no swift-boating this election.
mountain bed
Well, to be honest, the situation deteriorated a long time ago. In the primaries, I think. I'll give HRC some major credit - she played hard and it has seemed to toughen Obama up. Think about how much shit has already been thrown at him. Barring some crazy October surprise the best punches have already been thrown, and been deflected for the most part. If I'm McCain I'd be concerned about this coming up during debate. Fair or not it could be pretty damaging. And timely.

Analogman
Obama Leading McCain in New Ohio, Pennsylvania, Minnesota Polls Christopher Stern Mon Oct 6, 12:01 AM ET Oct. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Democrat Barack Obama leads Republican presidential nominee John McCain in battleground states of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Minnesota, according to new polls. Obama, an Illinois senator, leads 49 percent to 42 percent among Ohio voters, according to a Columbus Dispatch poll of 2,262 likely voters released yesterday. The survey, conducted Sept. 24 to Oct. 3, shows a change from a poll by the newspaper before the parties' nominating conventions, when McCain had a single percentage-point advantage. The state is crucial to the Arizona senator's campaign, because no Republican has won the presidency without carrying Ohio. Polls in Ohio ``are showing increased support for Barack Obama,'' because voters are paying attention to McCain's support for privatizing Social Security, backing ``job-killing trade agreements,'' and his backing of deregulation of the banking system, Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown said on ABC's ``This Week'' program yesterday. A Minnesota poll of 1,084 likely voters published by the Star Tribune newspaper shows Obama leading 55-37 percent over McCain. The poll was conducted from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2. Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota said the Star Tribune poll is ``notoriously not accurate,'' and said a separate earlier poll found McCain favored by 1 percentage point. ``Minnesota is a Democrat-leaning state, but not so much that it's implausible for a Republican to win here,'' Pawlenty said on ``This Week.'' Pennsylvania Poll In Pennsylvania, Obama has a 50 percent to 40 percent lead over McCain, according to a Morning Call/Muhlenberg College tracking poll. The Muhlenberg College poll surveyed 597 likely voters and was conducted from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3. The results of the three state polls were outside the margin for error. The presidential race in Colorado remains a tie, according to a poll released by the Denver Post yesterday. National polls also show that Obama is maintaining a lead over McCain. Obama led McCain 49 percent to 42 percent among registered voters surveyed Sept. 27-29 by the Pew Research Center. In a mid- September poll, the candidates were in a statistical dead heat. In a CBS News poll conducted Sept. 27-30, Obama led 50 percent to 41 percent among likely voters. The margin increased 4 percentage points from a CBS/New York Times survey a week earlier. NightOfJoy
When is Obama gonna bring up the close association that Todd Palin had (has?) with the Alaska Independence Party? Its an apt topic if McSame is going to toss the Ayers stone.

What were they thinking?Desperation. McCain's numbers have been tanking since they started talking about the economy. He doesn't have too many issues that show public sentiment leaning his way, so he's going with what he's got left. I read something that says Obama has ads ready to go re: the Keating 5 thing. The Palin association with the Alaska-secessionist group is on the table, too, and that shoe could drop at any time. But I think they will probably hold onto that one unless they need it. Keep the focus on McCain--he looks desperate right now.

I know but it seems like McCains camp by going on the offensive offensive had to know that Obama's people would bring out McCains past associations which are factual unsavory and tied in directly to his weakest policy area which happens to be peoples #1 concern these days - The economy. I think McCain may score some points but as he is scoring points (pretty much with his base only though) he is handing Obama ammunition to use to sway those middle ground voters. I also think they are ignoring Palin and the AIP in order to maintain focus on the top of the ticket. But is the Obama camp makes the decision to destroy the top and the bottom of the republican ticket, the door is wiide open now.
