I should probably just go ahead and start another thread for this, but...

My parents are in their late 60s. When they were learning to write, left-handedness was simply not an option (my mom would have been left-handed if left to her own devices; she writes right, but can do perfect cursive mirror-writing with her left hand, which probably would have gotten her burnt at the stake a few hundred years ago).

So I guess my question is, is there any way of knowing if any earlier presidents would have been lefties if they were learning to write today? Not that it matters, I'm just tossing it around, late on a Friday afternoon...

Also, why wasn't Garfield burnt at the stake? What's the deal there?

I've been told more than once that was a myth - I wonder what the truth is. They told you it was because that was considered to be deviating from the norm and/or it was seen as something to do with communism - or some other reason?

I saw Hoskins, a hard core republican running for MO State Rep sitting there with his family. Wilco and republicans in bars just don't mix well in my book.

Alcohol: America's best chance at reconciliation. :lol

The next time I hear somebody talk about reaching across the aisle, I hope it is because they are a handing somebody a frosty mug. This is the America I believe in. :usa :cheers

with that robo call i've concluded that the mccain/palin campaign has completely lost it. couldn't believe my ears, what is this, new-joe-mccarthy time? i was so disgusted by it last night that i couldn't read this board or anything else about the election. idiots do exist who will buy the repulsive crap in that call, but at this point there are probably very few of them who haven't already decided that obama is sub-human. so to gain a very few votes that probably won't help him, mccain has in my opinion reached down to a new low and sealed his legacy as the filthiest and stupidest presidential campaigner in modern times.

one of our two republican u.s. senators from maine, susan collins, actually contacted the mccain campaign and told them to stop making that robo call in our state, as she told the press yesterday. she thought it was bizarre and inappropriate, to put it mildly. three stars for senator collins.

I don't like to disrespect old folks, but I could not let those posters hang there. I don't think they put them up there anyhow.

If there was a silly "McCain is a racist" poster I would take that down as well. You removed hate, thanks. There is difference between that shit and a pro-McCain sign.

McCain should have picked you for VP.

We need VC in government. If we had government behind VC then perhaps we could paid for each post..or something.

I found and destroyed some OBAMA IS A MUSLIM posters at the laundromat this morning. I don't think the old ladies who happened to be there liked that very much - but, too bad.

God bless you my son. :thumbup

I think it should be pointed out that Mountain Bed and family are helping sway the red state of Indiana blue.....

From Fivethiryeight.com:

"So a canvasser goes to a woman's door in Washington, Pennsylvania. Knocks. Woman answers. Knocker asks who she's planning to vote for. She isn't sure, has to ask her husband who she's voting for. Husband is off in another room watching some game. Canvasser hears him yell back, "We're votin' for the n***er!"

Woman turns back to canvasser, and says brightly and matter of factly: "We're voting for the n***er." "

When I was out last night I drove past a yard with a bunch of the McCain/Palin signs. The stupid thing is that they painted over McCain's name so the signs all just said Palin. Do these people really want a Palin presidency? Who can possibly want that?

That sounds like something I would do when I was drunk.

Heh. Palin was selected as veep for one reason--it pisses off the left. That's it. Nobody has any delusions about her qualifications. The people with the Palin signs up mostly want to see her win because liberals will disembowel themselves in disgust (figuratively, I hope). I honestly think the GOP only put her there because they can. Because they can do something this ridiculous and have a half-decent shot of getting away with it. For everybody who has bemoaned 8 years of Bush and thought the end was in sight--here comes a giant Alaska sized middle finger for ya.

It might not work. There's a good chance this ticket could fail because of her. But if it doesn't...if they somehow win, the howling from the left will only be matched in intensity by the laughter on the right.
