Moss
So Neko Case is playing the same night as Lucero and it just happens to be on my birthday. Which one should I go see? Anybody have experience seeing either of them live?
LouieB
Never seen Lucero, so I have no idea, but Neko is very good live, funny banter and a great band. LouieB

calvino
The more I read her latest interviews, the more I think she is a few bricks shy of a full load. http://pitchfork.com/features/interviews/7636-neko-case/ Another interview, this one from Pitchfork (didn't see it posted in this thread) Pitchfork: What's the story behind the album cover? Neko Case: I don't like to get my picture taken, so I thought, how can I make it really fun, or at least as fun as it can be? I decided I would think about the album cover as if I were an eight-year-old boy, and if I were an eight-year-old boy, what would I want to do on the cover of my album? I would want a car and a sword. So I went with that. And it really was fun. We had a really fun time, me and Jason [Creps], my friend who took the picture. I also wanted to be riding a giant polar bear, but I don't have one of those. I like the cover. Listened to the disc again while driving through CO mountains this weekend and it made it for a peaceful drive. I still like Fox Confessor better, though.
Gobias Industries
Sooo...never really heard anything by Neko Case but she's playing a show literally 100-200 yards from my apartment in the coming month. Worth going to? Also, album to check out before I go in?

Worth going to? Also, album to check out before I go in?Worth it? Dear Lord, yes. It's a privilege being in the same room as that voice. I'd start with Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, but Blacklisted or even the new one, Middle Cyclone, would be good choices.
Guest Hollinger.
I can get off just thinking about being in the room while Neko is singing. Actually being there? There are few finer pleasure in life.

Worth going to? Also, album to check out before I go in? I read somewhere recently that she never felt that she was part of the alt.country deal. I find that interesting. I'd say my favorite is still Furnace Room Lullaby and Blacklisted. I have listened to those cds hundreds of times. 1997 The Virginian 2000 Furnace Room Lullaby 2001 Canadian Amp (EP) 2002 Blacklisted 2004 The Tigers Have Spoken (live) 2006 Fox Confessor Brings the Flood 2009 Middle Cyclone
watch me fall
So has anyone been to any of the shows so far? I went to the Atlanta show last week and it was amazing. Far surpassed anything that I had expected. I went in feeling lukewarm about Middle Cyclone and after hearing the songs live, I like it much more. (Fox is still my fave, though. ) Not to mention, Neko and Kelly have such great chemistry. They were laughing and joking most of the show. Neko even yelled "fuck you" to some obnoxious guy in the audience...felt like I was at a Jeff Tweedy show. Definitely worth the 3 hour drive.

Definitely worth the 3 hour drive. We saw the Savannah show last Friday - really enjoyed it although it was a weird crowd. The show was part of the Savannah Music Festival so there were a bunch of folks there who were unfamiliar w/ her stuff (some of whom walked out about halfway through). Lots of awkward pauses after songs when much of the audience were unsure if a song was over and if it was okay to applaud. Most of the setlist was from Middle Cyclone with a few older numbers mixed in. Loved the stage banter between Niko & Kelly (who knew Niko has such a potty mouth. hehee), and Kelly rockin' the music box solo.

jc4prez
Someone left this at my friends work. We popped it in the other night, looking forward to listening with headphones. Loved the crickets at the end. For a second I forgot I was in a high rise in Chicago.

intodeep
Review of Middle Cyclone by my 2 yr old daughter: "That's great music, mama!" That is pretty cool! I'm very sad to say i missed neko in atlanta last week. I checked for tickets about a month ago and they were sold out. I should have gone downtown and tried to scalp one, but i did not feel like dealing with it. I love the new album though. It keeps getting better.

Being part of Bloodshot was in fact invaluable to her career, even though at this point she no longer needs them. I've read her new album sold over 40,000 copies already. That is alot and hardly any all at the same time. In another world she would have sold a few 100 thou by now. They are now regularly playing Maneater (I know that isn't the real name, but it sort of is and brings to mind the rather dreadful Hall and Oates single) on XRT. Although I like this tune alot, the refrain is ever so slighty silly. Perhaps that is what makes it so catchy. Rhyming "eater" with "eat ya" is pretty humorous. Maggie
I've read a few recent interviews with Neko and I find her fascinating. I've been a fan for a couple years but I didn't know much of anything about her until recently. Middle Cyclone is undeniably my favorite album of 2009 thus far. I've bought quite a few enjoyable albums this year, but no others have hit me like this one. I struggle to keep myself from listening to it every day of the week, and the last thing I want to do is burn out on it.
