PopTodd
I got:Syd BarrettDaniel JohnstonRoky Erickson Folks of that ilk.Who else can we add to the list? I was thinking maybe:Brian WilsonEmitt Rhodes? But for some reason they just don't seem to fit into the same bucket. They don't have that same mystique. Either too visible (Wilson) or not a rabid enough cult (Rhodes) Who else you got?

Duck-Billed Catechist
Don't know that Jeff Mangum is damaged--just reclusive. But he definitely has a cult following and vaguely fits the criteria.
PopTodd
nick drake? This is going to be one really uplifting mix, huh? There are a lot of fun songs that these folks have made.First tracks:Syd Barrett - "Here I Go"Roky Erickson - "Two-Headed Dog"Daniel Johnston - "Speeding Motorcycle" (live) Someone else recommended Skip Spence. I know that name, but can't think of the songs. What was the band that he was in? I thought of the Jeff Mangum thing, too. But for the same reasons that you mentioned, I probably won't include him unless I get desperate.

Synthesizer Patel
Someone else recommended Skip Spence. I know that name, but can't think of the songs. What was the band that he was in? he was in moby grape and jefferson airplane. his solo album, oar, he wrote when he was in bellevue after attacking one of his band mates with an axe. little hands might be a good choice of song to include. or an upbeat song omaha which he wrote in moby grape

jff
Tell me about this one. Genius british acoustic guitarist, probably best known (thanks to Simon & Garfunkel) for writing "Anji", a staple of the folk guitar repertoire, sidelined for years by drug addiction, resurfaced in recent years, died last month. That's pretty much all I know about him. I wish I was more familiar with his music. http://www.daveygraham.moonfruit.com/
