joshead
If you had to make a mix with one song from each Wilco album to represent that album as a whole, what would it be? My picks: A.M.-Passenger SideBeing There-Hotel Arizona (represents the dual country/experimental rock sides of the album)Summerteeth-A Shot in the Arm(although almost every song on Summerteeth is representative of how Summerteeth sounds overall)YHF-War on War(strummy acoustic guitars with weird synths at the end, like much of YHF)AGIB-Muzzle of BeesSBS-Side with the Seeds Discuss/Argue. Winston Legthigh
If you had to make an all-star baseball team from Wilco songs (3 song limit from each album), which songs would you pick, and what positions would you put them at? Assume that you have a DH, a starting pitcher, middle relief, set-up guy, and closer. THEN, what would your batting order be, and who would you pinch run for, and which song would you sub out against southpaws? And which songs are switch-hitters? GO! Winston Legthigh
is this like tee ball, where every kid has to bat?it's one level up from tee-ball. you have a coach pitching. no leading off or stealing. Also the 10-run rule applies after the 2nd inning. Game is called for darkness and lightning strikes.

joshead
Basically a guy I work with said he had never heard Wilco and wanted to know which album to buy. I told him that I would make a mix on my ipod to listen to at work, putting 1 or 2 songs for each album. But I want to make sure he gets a feel for each album so he doesnt buy one and find it isnt anything like the other stuff he has heard. Kind of like when everybody bought the Ben Folds Five album "Whatever and Ever Amen" expecting to hear a bunch of songs like "Brick."

mountain bed
here's a thematic stab: AM - Casino Queen: This song provides a landscape for the album, much like a great novel establishes an image for the reader to refer back to throughout the book. Being There - Someone Else's Song: This is an album of country, folk, and rock songs. It combines all the greatest elements of pop music on one album. Here Jeff admits, with humility, that he and his band don't have much to say; he praises the greats before him... but we all know that they have much to say, and they are in the category of the greats. Summerteeth - I'm Always in Love or ELT: Jeff's volatile personality is highlighted here, and that volatility is reflected in the range of songwriting on this album. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Ashes of American Flags: Both about rebirth and a reckoning with the fact that our essence always lingers with us, this song mirrors American history and the very singular and individual "American experience," full of self-mortification and self-discovery. A Ghost is Born - Muzzle of Bees: An existential album at its core, this song most poetically and poignantly champions the mystic connections in our lives. Sky Blue Sky - Sky Blue Sky: This album is full of songs I'd call Nostalgic Americana, which revolve around, again, an American landscape. This song seems to be the foundation upon which the rest were built. You know what? I liked this - nice post! I'm not sure I agree with all of these but this is a pretty good argument delivered here.
