Dear Mr. Tweedy (aka "ChooChooChuck"),

Your little ploy has fooled no one here at VC. Obviously this thread was a thinly veiled attempt to gauge popular support for Mr. Sansone as you contemplate who's next on your list of alleged malcontents to fire from the band. Let the record show that the outcry of compassion and support for our beloved Pat has proven to be heartfelt and widespread. We, the people of VC, have spoken, and we shall tolerate no more of this nonsense.

There will be no lineup changes for the foreseeable future. Now go back to the loft and play nice with the other boys.

Sincerely,

tas

If you really wanted to get people going, it should have been Nels, not Pat. But well played nonetheless.

There should be a thread or something about how well Nels fits into the band.

As for this, I fell for it last night because my April Fools sensor is only deployed on April 1st. My reaction was not the horror and shock expressed by many of you. More like, "Oh, okay."

I seem to be the only one that didn't fall for it, thus confirming my freakish nature.

Also, WXRT generally does an excellent April Fool's Day prank. Looks like they are doing Karaoke day, along with "Experiencing the radio in 3D" where you can print out glasses :rotfl

Same here. I was more like "well that sucks".. But I certainly wasn't horrified and shocked. I don't want to go off on a rant on how the band would be affected if he left, but I feel that there would be a big hole to fill.. Just not as big of a hole to fill if Nels, Glen, or Michael left..

I found this the other day when I looked at Wilco's MySpace page. I never heard these songs before.

I like what Pat contributes to Wilco a lot and IMO as a multi-instrumentalist he is essential, especially to the live show. He would be sorely missed (... any of them would be missed by me though!) ... plus Jeff thinks he is cool. :lol (he said so at the Valentine's Day solo show at The Vic!)

Had this been true how long before the Pat Sansone was an a-hole and non-essential to the band threads start popping up?

He's not, and I don't think anyone could argue that he is. Wilco existed before him, and would likely still exist if he, and only he, left. Wilco's sound requires a talented multi-instrumentalist, and Pat certainly brings a style of play and performance that no other member does, but Wilco has gone through several multi-instrumentalists throughout the years and maintained the 'Wilco' sound.

Leroy is the perfect example. My favorite incarnation of Wilco was the post-Bennett quartet; I think Leroy's musicality heavily influenced the way that era sounded, not least of all because he was providing all of the non-Jeff/Glenn/John/computer parts. His stylistic approach to the piano/guitar parts differs from Pat's/Mike's approach, and yet his departure showed us that he was not essential to the Wilco sound.

The "Wilco" sound has been different with every incarnation, so Leroy was essential to that "Wilco" sound. I liked them best during this era as well.
