c0ldr0ses
I feel somewhat obligated at this point, assuming that it hasn't already been stated, to bring attention to the fact that "Bull Black Nova" is a long and semi-convoluted reference to Pulp Fiction. First and foremost, the obvious; The car used is a 1974 Chevy Nova. Okay, so it's not bull black... "It's in my hairIt's on my clothes" aka. Brains and blood everywhere... When they shot Marvin. I mean that seems to be the most stand out lyric of the song that relates to pulp fiction, but if you just read the lyrics it really starts to come together. Sadly enough, after I read this the song "Bull Black Nova" became much less affecting and personal to me. It's like listening to Tears in Heaven and then realising that it was inspired by a kleenex advertisement.

Also I think that making the Pulp fiction connection needs a little more than a car make and a very loose connection. Reading the lyrics with this in mind does not even make sense. H.Stone
You know, I think "Bohemian Rhapsody" is about Pulp Fiction, too! "Mama, just killed a man,Put a gun against his head,Pulled my trigger, now he's dead" (Vinnie, shooting Marvin in the car...in the head!)
KevinG
I am pretty sure Tears in Heaven was a written because of Eric Clapton's son's tragic death. As for Bull Black Nova as a veiled reference to Pulp Fiction, nice theroy but you are stretching a bit. My contention and I have said this all along is that Bull Black Nova is the follow up to Via Chicago. It is either the dream he talks about in Via Chicago, or the dream become true. mpolak21
This is a nice theory, but I really doubt any of the references were more than coincidental, just like the dude that came up with how A Ghost is Born can sync up with Passion of The Christ. Funny, the song Tears in Heaven, itself, always kept me from enjoying it, though the story behind it is devastatingly sad, even if it did inspire one of the craziest Anton Newcombe quotes of all time: "people always talk about Eric Clapton. What did he ever do besides throw his baby off a fuckin' ledge and write a song about it?" --Mike

mpolak21
Crowman, I'll have you know I was actually outside, sitting on my apartment's stoop poaching free wireless from the parking lot, when I made that post, while drinking orange juice. However, living in Minnesota might prevent me from ever seeing the sun again. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to track down the article detailing Passion of The Christ's sync with A Ghost is Born, it was on a Marah board which is now down. --Mike

the_fliz1
Everything that I have read about Nova said that the song is about a guy who just killed his girlfriend, unless Vincent and Marvin had something going on that was deleted on the cutting room floor, I don't think that it pertains. Although this secondary plot line would have made Pulp Fiction a heck of a lot more interesting.
dunnright00
"I must be High" then too because I actually thought there was a connection also before reading this thread. Particularly the part at the end when jeff is screaming "Pick Up", I imagine Jules saying "I ain't got no contacts in (whatever area code they were in)!"

I'd never encourage anyone to actually watch that movie, but reading the synopsis of how they work together was at least fairly interesting to me four or five years ago when I first read it. --Mike
