Wilco -- 7/18/09, Wappingers Falls, Ny

Recommended Posts

This was one of the best concerts I've ever been to, and yes...I have been to a TON of shows since the mid-'80s (old)! Thanks to everyone for celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary with my wife & I last night.

Nels amazes me more everytime I see him. Can't wait to see him with Mike Watt FOR FREE in Central Park on 8/1 when they open for M. Ward. That's gonna be good.

As far as last night goes, you've all said it already. My first "Bull Black Nova" last night; can't believe what a Monster it is live! Can't wait to see it again. Everything was great all the way around...except for the standstill in the parking lot afterwards. The "Far, Far Away" & "Too Far Apart" grouping was quite nice, and then onto "Handshake"....priceless. I really dig the Tour Program too. Fun Stuff.

Did anyone notice the trailer outside of the Stadium on the 1st base side that had "Fun Is Good" painted on it? Love it! We must all do it again one day!!

A great show. Three songs in, I had the feeling I was seeing a great band truly at the height of their powers. LOVED the setlist. The segue from "Poor Places" to "Spiders" was absolutely killer, as was just about everything. LOVED "Too Far Apart" and "Bull Black Nova" did not disappoint in any way. I had not been to Dutchess Stadium in a long time, but it turned out to be a nice, user-friendly venue to see a show. We sat in the seats far up the first base line - easy access to beer and bathrooms, but we were still close enough to be thoroughly rocked. Met up with Wilco Worshipper at the good-beer line. (SPATEN!) A very sweet and awesome person who I was glad to have finally met IRL! And, yes, I gave Oberst a few boos and at least one "get off the stage." In Poughkeepsie, if you are a crap opening band, you hear about it. He played about three songs too long for my liking. Actually, one song would have been too long for my liking.

Awesome. 2 thoughts: a) re: alleged flatulence, is the bratwurst truck still parked under the Newburgh/Beacon Bridge? It was when I lived in Fishkill circa 1983...that would be my prime suspect as source. B) It's amusing to read the flack Conor continues to take as an opener, especially considering how many of us witnessed the Jonathan Wilson, err, Experience(?) opening for Wilco in Pomona & LA!

Great show. Personal highlights: Too Far Apart, Bull Black Nova, Hummingbird, Theologians, Spiders!

We just got back to NYC. Went to Dia Beacon, explored Hudson Valley. Thx Wilco for getting me up there! My favorite show since McCarren Park Pool.

I was hoping you'd get a killer show, and anytime you get the old-school Poor Places > Spiders it'll make your night imo (that combo is still one of my favorite combos I've ever seen them do). Running into WW is a BONUS - what a sweetheart she is. :thumbup

That INDEED was a killer combo!!! I had my belongings in hand as 'Poor Places' was ending so I could go join the crowd for 'Spiders'. It's always a MUST for me :rock Thank you Dan & Scott for the kind words. You both are two of the kindest gents and I'm very lucky to be able to call you "friends". Scott just wanted to let you know it wasn't just a "running into" tho. We PLANNED it so that we didn't miss each other!!! :D Dan was even kinder and friendlier IRL!!!

This show was incredible as were Portland, Brooklyn and Lowell (all for many different personal reasons). It's so great to see Jeff happy and having fun! I'm so happy about all the people I got to meet on purpose and by chance! (Dan, Jenni, Laurie, Rick, Michelle, Steve, Matt, Jennifer, Laurie the 2nd, Lou, Paul, etc.) Nothing more ego-charging to hear than "Oh my God, YOU'RE Wilco Worshipper!"...lol

Thanks to the band for my best summer ever!!! :cheers And I truly have to thank my boyfriend because without him this would have not at all been possible for me to do!!! :wub

Although it was a tough go at Wappingers with the "Drunk Phish Crowd."

Nice ignorant comment -thanks. Though I wore a phish shirt, I was neither drunk nor obnoxious. I am sorry you had to be next to some jerks -that always sucks. However, your comment did induce me to register and post :D

Fantastic show -I was dead center about 15 ft. from the stage. The crowd around me was great, as well as the sound - there's nothing like a gen adm show outside! I still don't recognize most of the songs, but it doesn't matter when they are played so AMAZINGLY well.

I finally caught on to Wilco when they opened up for Neil last December, then saw them at Bonnaroo (WOW! Amazing sound system -a perfect afternoon), and now Wappinger's. Coming from Worcester MA, I would have preferred to see them at Portland, and I skipped Lowell since I suspected rain (glad you brave folks had a great time!), but the drive was well worth it.

I agree with a previous poster that the band is peaking hard -and I love Jeff's humor, both at Wappinger's and Bonnaroo. One of the most gifted and authentic rock n roll bands around.

Thanks for the download, nyctaper. Can't wait to listen to the show again. And glad to know there's such a great online community of Wilco fans.

Also wanted to say that I was glad to have caught Conor's set but I likely won't be going out of my way to see him again. There is some talent there but he's just not my style. I have to add that I have never seen a musician accidentally unplug his guitar, nor I have seen one drop the mic, and Conor did both within 2 minutes -ouch!

I'm so jealous of those who will be seeing Blitzen Trapper open for Wilco in late August.

Wonderful show, may be the best of the 7 I've seen by the band. Excellent set, nice venue, good sound in the pit. Jeff was in good spirits and seemed to really be having a great time up there. The new dueling guitars section of Hoodoo Voodoo is insane. Great stuff.

I completely agree this was probably the best out of 13 shows so far. The band really looked like they were having fun. LOVED Hoodoo Voodoo!

I wish I had seen that. Fun IS good! Good is fun, too! Wilco combines the two quite nicely. They just make it all feel so good. FYI for next time (please let there be a next time) - we parked in someone's yard down the road and had no trouble getting out.

And Happy Anniversary! We just celebrated our 10th, too - the tin anniversary. The couple that rocks together stays together! :dancing :rock (That's actually a pretty good likeness of us rockin out, with me on the right.)

I thought this was just an amazing show. Having gone to Coney Island, I was glad they changed up the setlist a bit. Had a little trouble with my camera at security, but it got sorted out.

I saw someone having trouble - must have been you. For future reference - what was the problem and how did you sort it?

Beautiful pictures. Makes me wonder why I even bother.

We were great, weren't we? Can I ask where you saw Wilco (The Burger) that's pictured in your avatar? And was it any good?

That was at Max's on Main St. and, unfortunately, it didn't actually exist :( The owner just knew enough about wilco to put that on the sign to lure us in :)

Bummer. I wonder what would be on Wilco (the Burger) - sky blue cheese on a poppy seed roll (seed side up)?

This was meant to be played on a high-end stereo:

http://www.nyctaper.com/?p=1372

This is the best recording I've heard on this leg! Nice work!!! Too bad you couldn't drown out the one girl screaming perodically. "Sing m*therf-ers" during Jesus, Etc. was a nice touch.

I will say, this might have been the best crowd I've seen at a Wilco show. Everyone around me was great, amicable and enjoying the moment.

I did try to make my way through the crowd to find my friends and was viciously boxed out by some crazy female. She wouldn't let me go past, exclaiming she had been standing there for an hour. So I just walked around her. Aside from that, and the drunk guy slurring at the beginning of Poor Places, the crowd was A+. Made some new friends, all was great.

The setlist was freakin' great. Theologians was a wonderful surprise, as was Far, Far Away. The way things were going I thought we would have gotten Casino Queen, Shouldn't Be Ashamed, and Outtasite at the end. I can't complain though. 29 songs and 2 1/2 hours of joy.

Thanks. I was told "no cameras with detachable lenses." That's a new one on me. I told the guy that the band allows and encourages still photography of all kinds and that I've never had a problem with that exact gear at other shows. I also said that I reviewed the posted security rules for the venue before coming (because I don't want to leave expensive equipment in my car) and that the rules said nothing about cameras. Finally, I just told told him that my lens was stuck on and I couldn't remove it.

Haha. Was this near the speakers to the right of the stage? I was standing near a similar sounding female who just refused to let people pass.
