i can't stand the singer of Wild Beasts whatsoever...

they've been playing them on our local MPR indie station for the last 2 years and everytime i hear one of their songs i have to immediately turn it off or change the station.

the worst culprit is a song off one of their older releases 'Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants'... OOF :yucky

Becoming obsessed with this:

header_01.jpg

Ever since my childhood I've been scared I've been afraid

Of being trapped by circumstance and staying in one place

So I always keep a small bag full of clothes carefully stored

Somewhere secret somewhere safe

And somewhere close to the door

Well I've traveled many countries I've washed my feet in many seas

I've drunk with drifters in Vienna and with punks in old dc

And I've driven across deserts driven by the irony

That only being shackled to the the road could ever I be free

I could picture why a lot of people would be totally turned off by the pitch thrown. It's a lot of vocal discord.

Been listening to this over the past couple of days. Can't say it's blowing me away. Sounds great, but the songs just aren't that compelling.

probably should have clarified in past comments that it's basically just no frills/gritty rock n' roll.

it's not all that different from Rick's last band Hot Snakes at times, and isn't a huge stretch from Drive Like Jehu, both of which i dug a lot. was kind of inevitable that i'd dig Obits.

they're a lot better live than on record too

that Big Pink record is DAMN good imo. 4AD has had the best '09 releases of any label

The album is pretty good and very enjoyable, but Dominoes gets repetitive, quickly.

What else did 4AD publish beside The Big Pink's A Brief History Of Love, St. Vincent's Actor, and Dark Was The Night. I haven't heard the new Mountain Goats and Atlas Sound's Logos (but assume it can't be awful because Bradford Cox is doing a good job so far).

I suppose three good albums is not bad although I've been on and off on Dark Was The Night.
